Job summary

A family-owned plumbing firm is seeking an Apprentice to learn the Plumbing trade through hands-on training and classroom instruction. This role requires effective communication and the ability to work as part of a team while adhering to safety standards. Ideal candidates will have a strong desire to learn and demonstrate reliability and resourcefulness. Candidates should have reliable transport as job sites are in DC, VA, and MD, and be willing to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• 0-1 years of experience as a laborer or in a related trade is preferred.
• Must be able to lift between 5-50 lbs frequently.
• Must have reliable transportation to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Attend training classes and maintain on-the-job training logs.
• Work under supervision to assemble plumbing systems.
• Learn plumbing codes and blueprints for installations.
• Perform various plumbing techniques under guidance.
• Maintain a professional appearance at all times.

COMPANY SUMMARY:

We specialize in full service mechanical solutions which include engineering, coordination, prefabrication assembly, construction, service and maintenance.

JOB SUMMARY:

Through classroom and on-the-job training (OJT), learns and applies fundamentals of Plumbing trade.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to work Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Must be flexible with schedule.
• Reliable transportation - go to sites in DC, VA, and MD.
• 0-1 years of prior experience as a laborer, skilled laborer, helper, or in another related trade.
• Satisfactory background check and initial/random drug tests.
• Dependable and reliable.
• Works well with team, including other trades.
• Inquisitive: wants to learn; asks questions.
• Communicates effectively in English.
• Able to lift five to fifty pounds (5-50lbs), with or without assistance, frequently.
• Able to sit, stand, bend, walk, climb, and remain in static positions for duration of shift.
• Able to withstand exposure to heights, tight/confined spaces; work in dusty areas; work in temperature extremes; be exposed to external elements (wind, rain, snow, etc).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend apprentice classes in trade and maintains OJT logs.
• Work under immediate supervision of Master/Journey worker, Leadman, or Foreman to assemble/complete work.
• Learn appropriate Plumbing code.
• Learn how to read blueprints, and uses to install Plumbing systems.
• Assemble work laid out by Journey/Master worker.
• Learn how to cut and thread up to 2" pipe; sweat and solder pipe; tack-weld steel pipe; cut steel pipe with torch.
• Learn plumbing techniques.
• Learn about specifications.
• Learn the mechanics and principles of Plumbing.
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude.
• Perform arithmetic calculations (add/subtract/multiply/divide, including fractions and decimals)
• Any other duties requested by Supervisor.
