Job summary

Northwell Health in New York City is seeking a qualified plumber/steamfitter to maintain, repair, install and replace water, gas, steam, medical gas and drainage systems in a hospital setting. You must be able to respond to emergencies, including weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities include threading, soldering, welding pipes; installing fixtures; maintaining fire systems; reading blueprints; and complying with NYC Codes.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • G38Torch use of O-2 COMB GAS Certificate required.
  • Burning and Welding Certificate required.
  • Minimum of two years general experience as plumber or steamfitter required.
  • Knowledge of shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers required.
  • Ability to interpret building and plumbing codes; read blueprints and schematics per NYC Code.

Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, medical gas and drainage systems in accordance with established procedures. In the event of emergency, must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts.

Job Responsibility

  • Maintains, repairs, installs and replaces water, gas, steam, air and medical gas and drainage systems. Threads, solders, fit and weld pipes.
  • Installs, connects, repairs and replaces pipes. Assembles plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers and water heaters.
  • Maintains fire systems, checking sprinklers and standpipes, etc
  • Fits gaskets, seals joints, makes connections using weld, solder, nuts and bolts
  • Repairs autoclaves, sterilizing equipment and distilled water units
  • Paints, plasters or replaces tile and floor boards, when necessary.
  • Maintains cleanliness of all equipment and shop.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification

  • High school diploma or GED, required. Vocational high school graduate with 2 years plumbing courses or equivalent, required.
  • G38Torch use of O-2 COMB GAS Certificate, required.
  • Burning and Welding Certificate, required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years general experience as plumber or steamfitter, required.
  • Knowledge of shop tools, pipe threading, electric drills, rotary hammers, required.
  • Ability to interpret building and plumbing codes. Ability to read blueprints and schematics in accordance with NYC Code. Working knowledge of all building, grounds, facilities and department work areas, required. Computer literacy preferred.
  • Experience working in a Hospital / Healthcare setting strongly preferred.
