Job summary

IHA hospital in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a skilled plumber to maintain, install, and repair the hospital's water and drain systems. This role contributes to the reliable and safe operation of the hospital plumbing distribution network.

The ideal candidate will have a current plumber's license, at least one year of plumbing experience, and possibly an associate's degree or equivalent training. The position is full-time, day shift, with a 7am-3:30pm schedule and variable weekends/holidays.

Qualifications

  • Minimum: A high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)
  • Preferred: An Associate's degree (two-year program or two to three years of college) or equivalent formal training.
  • Minimum: A current plumber's license
  • Minimum: One year plumbing experience
  • Preferred: Five or more years experience, hospital experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, installation, and maintenance of hospital water and drain systems
  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment according to established procedures and guidelines and document results of activities performed to comply with all regulatory accreditation and licensing standards.
  • Performs corrective maintenance including diagnosing problems using electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or other sciences and document results of activities performed to comply with all regulatory accreditation and licensing standards.
  • Interacts with clinical staff to understand and resolve operational problems.
  • Completes Daily Time Sheet in AIMS to track work orders and preventative maintenance, and miscellaneous work done.
  • Determines need for replacement parts and supplies and order as appropriate.
  • Coordinates and monitors support efforts with outside service organizations when necessary to make sure the work they perform is appropriate and documented.
  • Maintains age specific safety precautions including: No small, sharp objects, or tools that may injure patients or visitors will be left out. Hallways and pathways will be free of debris, equipment, tools and liquid spills.
  • Promotes teamwork by keeping others informed, participating effectively in group decision making, working to accomplish team objectives and projects, and by soliciting feedback about one's effectiveness as a team member.
  • Continually improves processes by seeking ways to eliminate and reduce waste.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
