Job description

Richland County School District One, South Carolina

Classification Title: Plumber – FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Salary Range: $38,480.00 – $57,219.00

General Statement of Job

Under occasional supervision, performs installation, maintenance and repair of plumbing and gas systems in schools in accordance with applicable codes, specifications, schedules and standards. Reports to the Crew Leader or Supervisor of Maintenance Services.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform plumbing and gas system installations, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Diagnose malfunctions, repair broken water lines, clear and maintain sewer lines and treatment facilities.
  • Maintain hot water systems to ensure health and sanitation.
  • Repair and maintain plumbing fixtures and flush well water systems.
  • Carry out tasks in accordance with codes, specifications, standards and schedules.
  • Estimate materials and labor; obtain prices and order supplies for projects.
  • Work on special projects such as new construction as assigned.
  • Respond to after‑hours emergency calls, seven days per week.
  • Prepare and submit records and reports: work orders, diagnostic reports, parts requests, specifications, accident reports, water samples, etc.
  • Operate and maintain equipment: two‑way radio, vehicle, back‑hoe, truck, high‑pressure jetter, computer, electronic pipe locator, power tools, hand tools, diagnostic tools.
  • Interact and communicate with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, engineers, district staff, students, sales representatives.
Additional Duties
  • Assist other trades employees as required.
  • Unstop sinks and toilets.
  • Perform related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training

Requires a high school diploma supplemented by three to five years of plumbing repair experience, or equivalent combination. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and Journeyman Plumber certification. To qualify for Master pay grade, evidence of ten years of experience is required.

Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required

Physical: Able to operate equipment, lift up to 100 lbs. Must drive, walk, stand, stoop, kneel, crawl, etc. Must lift and carry up to 100 lbs.

Other abilities: Reading codes, preparing reports, communication, problem solving, mechanical knowledge.
