Job summary

Phillips Academy in Andover, MA is seeking a Plumber to maintain and service plumbing systems, boilers, and related mechanical equipment across the campus. Reporting to the Mechanical Leadperson, you’ll perform installations, inspections, and repairs with minimal supervision in accordance with established guidelines.

Responsibilities include reading construction documents, troubleshooting, and coordinating with other trades.

Qualifications

  • Requires MA Journeyman Plumbing License.
  • Experience reading construction documents and shop drawings.
  • Willingness to work overtime and on-call shifts.
  • CORI/SORI background checks and eligibility to work in the U.S.

Job description

Reporting directly to the Mechanical Leadperson, the Plumber performs maintenance and service repairs on plumbing systems, boilers, and other mechanical systems across campus. These well-defined tasks are performed with minimal supervision in accordance with established guidelines and procedures. This position requires proficiency in all aspects of plumbing system installation, operation and maintenance, and a working knowledge of all trades that make up facilities mechanical systems in general. The nature of this position is reactionary and responds to the requests of the campus community. When emergencies and/or extreme weather conditions occur, the functions of this position may be deemed essential, and employees must report to work and/or remain on duty during their regularly scheduled work hours or the work hours designated by their supervisors. Supervisors will inform employees when the functions are essential.

The qualified candidate must possess a current Journeyman Plumbing License from Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure - Board of Plumbers and Gas Fitters. Possessing a Massachusetts Grade 1 Waste Water Treatment Plant License, an Oil Burner Technician Certificate, and/or a Massachusetts Journeyman Sprinkler Fitter License would be a plus for this position.

Applicants must also have strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, computer skills, and experience in reading construction documents, shop drawings, layout work and material lists. Physical ability to perform all job functions as required in a facilities setting. Overtime required as necessary and participation in the rotating on-call program to provide 24 hour - 7 days a week off shift coverage for emergency situations.
