Job summary

The SEI at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh seeks a PLC Software Development Engineer to design, implement, and maintain ST-based PLC programs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to define control requirements and ensure reliable, safe operation of industrial systems across DoD-focused projects.

Ideal candidates bring hands-on Rockwell PLC experience, IEC 61131-3 proficiency, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• BS in CS or EE with 10+ years experience, or MS with 8+ years, or PhD with 5+ years.
• Hands-on Rockwell Automation PLCs experience.
• Proficient in IEC 61131-3 Structured Text programming language.
• Strong understanding of Ethernet/IP and Modbus protocols.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain PLC programs in Structured Text.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define control requirements.
• Test, debug, and validate automation systems for reliability and safety.
• Troubleshoot and optimize PLC programs for performance.
• Create system specifications, test procedures, and user guides.
• Provide on-site and remote commissioning support.
