Job summary

Amcor Rigid Packaging in Ames, IA seeks an Automation Controls Technician to maintain instrumentation and control systems supporting plant production, quality and safety goals. You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and assist in SCADA integration, system upgrades, and documentation.

You will work with a team to ensure reliability of industrial controls and provide guidance for interface groups, installation, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance activities across production lines.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in PLCs, robotics, automation or similar required.
• 5–10 years of maintenance experience in manufacturing environment preferred.
• Experience with plastic manufacturing technology is strongly preferred.
• Industrial communication and PLC messaging experience required.
• Experience in a 24/7 high-volume manufacturing environment desirable.
• Strong knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, drives, and SCADA systems.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and support Automation systems to meet production, quality, GMP, and safety goals.
• Troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs (Allen Bradley/Siemens preferred).
• Assist installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical systems and components.
• Collaborate with plant personnel on SCADA implementation and controls design.
• Develop and maintain system architecture and interfacing documentation.
• Plan, schedule, install, monitor, configure, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade production environments.
• Support Preventive Maintenance programs and identify improvement opportunities.
• Assist with new equipment installations and system upgrades.
• Ensure safety compliance with LOTO and Electrical Safety policies.
• Train maintenance personnel on safety and operation of systems.
• Build and maintain vendor relationships.
