Overview

Element has an exciting opportunity for a PLC Controls Project Engineer at our Fairfield, OH lab. Element is a recognized leader in testing, inspection, and product certification.

Element Cincinnati’s capabilities range from high and low cycle fatigue testing at elevated and sub-ambient temperatures to fracture mechanics and monotonic testing under tension, compression, shear, and torsion. We also boast one of the widest ranges of accredited medical device testing in the world, including static, fatigue, and wear testing solutions for hip, knee, spine, and trauma devices.

Eligibility

If you are not currently authorized to work in the US, Element Materials Technology will not consider your job application. Any candidate must be lawfully eligible to work in the US as a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States (Green Card Holder).

Responsibilities
  • Provide ongoing support for Element-built test machines, which utilize B&R Automation hardware and software. A key focus will be enhancing and expanding capabilities within the existing system.
  • Support and further develop IoT solutions for Element assets. These systems combine custom-built IoT hardware/software with OEM components, including:
    • Custom-designed circuit boards
    • Integration with off-the-shelf hardware and hosting services (currently using myDevices)
  • Demonstrate initiative and autonomy in daily tasks, often acting without the need for detailed instruction.
  • Independently determine and implement appropriate design methodologies and protocols.
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineers at Element and external experts to address well-defined technical challenges, including routine and standardized analyses.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams, including:
    • Element IT
    • Element Data Science
    • Element Software Engineering
    • Element Operational Excellence
    • Individual lab General Managers and their support staff
Skills / Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years in industrial automation and controls experience
  • Must have PLC programming experience
  • Experience with B&R Automation (a plus)
  • Strong skills in control systems, electrical design, and IoT technologies
  • Proficient in programming languages (Structured Text, Java, HTML, C++, C#, MySQL)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • U.S. citizenship required; some travel involved
