Job summary

Tesco Controls (a UFT company) seeks a PLC Applications Engineer to design and implement PLC and OIT programs for water and wastewater processes across California. You will verify that all aspects of PLC and OIT functionality meet project specifications and provide bench, shop, and startup testing support.

The role requires 5+ years of related experience, a BS degree in a technical field, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Technology or related field.
  • 5+ years of PLC and OIT programming experience.
  • Experience with major PLC brands (Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Tesco).
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Write PLC operating programs based on control specifications and Tesco standards.
  • Publish concise operating instructions detailing control parameters and effects.
  • Provide technical assistance to verify/modify PLC programs (phone or job-site).
  • Perform customer training and assist sales with product presentations.
  • Work with departments, engineers, customers and end users to assure proper system layouts and designs.
  • Analyze and interpret existing programs to identify system requirements and modifications.
  • Lead development of best practices and standards in programming.
  • Support project planning and execution with weekly status reports.

Under little to no supervision, the PLC Applications Engineer writes PLC programs, OIT programs, and software control descriptions for controlling various water and/or wastewater processes. Responsible for the analysis, design, programming, debugging and modification of programmable logic for such applications. Verify that all aspects of PLC & OIT functionality meet required project specifications and perform bench testing, shop testing, and troubleshooting during startup and post commissioning. Ability and willingness to train and aid other programmers, along with assisting in the development of departmental best practices and standards.

This role will travel about 30-40% of the time throughout California.

What you'll do:
  • Write PLC operating program based upon control specification and/or Tesco standards to assure safe, reliable and optimal equipment operation
  • Write (publish) concise operating instructions detailing; control parameters and their effects under normal and failure conditions Provide technical assistance (phone or job-site) to verify and/or modify PLC program
  • Perform customer training and assist sales force with product presentations
  • Work with various departments internally, along with consulting engineers, customers and end users to assure proper system layouts and designs
  • Analyze and interpret existing programs and documentation to identify systems’ requirements and project modifications
  • Ensure assignments and work schedules follow policy and procedures
  • Assist in the standardization of department programming practices and procedures
  • Evaluate current procedures and recommend changes to improve the efficiency of planning, documentation and execution of development activity
  • Function as technical leadership of projects and support larger scale projects
  • Communicate effectively to a wide range of internal and external contacts
  • Assist in training other employees on any aspect above
  • Provide weekly content and job status reports used with scheduling tools.

What you bring:
  • At least 5+ years of related experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering/Technology or related field and necessary experience
  • Applied knowledge in programming major manufacturers (Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric, Siemens, Tesco, etc.) PLCs & OITs
  • Excellent understanding of computer operations, Microsoft Office
  • Excellent knowledge of instruments and electro-mechanical devices used for process control
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • High level of organizational and time management skills
  • High level of project management skills

$135,000 - $155,000 a year

Pay offered will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, and geographic location. We may pay more or less than the range based on the person’s qualifications. In good faith we believe the range is what we will pay for this role at the time of the posting and may change in the future.
