Job summary

Portage Public Schools is seeking a Playground Supervisor for a long-term substitute spell (October to January) to direct students to and from the playground and maintain order in lunch areas. The role requires agility, mobility, and clear verbal and written communication with students and staff.

The position is part-time (3–4 hours per day) with a starting pay around $14.28 per hour, and adherence to district nondiscrimination policies. Prior experience with supervising children is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Agility and mobility to move about the playground.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Organize students to and from the playground.
• Maintain order within the cafeteria and playground by observing the rules and being consistent with discipline.
• Supervise students as they return their trays and dispose of debris.
• Clean tables between lunch periods and dispose of debris.
• Maintain visibility by circulating among the tables and help children who need assistance; resolve minor problems that might arise.
• Encourage acceptable behavior by demonstrating these traits when speaking with children.
• Inform teacher and/or principal of any serious problems arising within the cafeteria or playground.
• Immediately notify principal in the event of a discipline problem that is considered to be serious.
• Supervise dismissal of students from lunchroom and to and from playground.
• Assist food staff as necessary.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Regular and consistent attendance.

Job Summary:

Directs the students to and from the playground in an orderly, organized manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities/Supervisor:

• Organize students to and from the playground.
• Maintain order within the cafeteria and playground by observing the rules and being consistent with discipline.
• Supervise students as they return their trays and dispose of debris.
• Clean tables between lunch periods and dispose of debris.
• Maintain visibility by circulating among the tables and help children who need assistance; resolve minor problems that might arise.
