Overview

The YMCA of Metro Atlanta is seeking a Playcenter Attendant to provide care, lead activities, and ensure the safety of children between the ages of three months and twelve years. The role reports to the Youth Development Director and focuses on child safety, youth development, and high member engagement.

Responsibilities
  • Build committed and connected relationships with members, volunteers, and partners.
  • Maintain privacy of member information.
  • Adhere to and implement all policies and procedures in the training manual.
  • Communicate positively with members, guests, participants, and volunteers.
  • Provide assistance as needed.
  • Assist in the annual "Why it Matters" campaign and achieve individual and team goals.
  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings as required.
  • Consistently display core values of honesty, respect, caring, and responsibility.
  • Stay educated on current YMCA programs and events.
  • Maintain a safe environment at all times.
  • Maintain branch and association certifications (CPR/AED, blood‑borne pathogens, branch orientation, emergency procedures).
  • Ensure toys are cleaned and sanitized daily.
  • Keep accurate records for child check‑in and check‑out.
  • Enforce Metro Atlanta YMCA's Keeping Kids Safe policies.
  • Communicate clearly with parents about injuries, behavior problems, or health concerns.
  • Complete accident/incident reports related to injuries, behavior problems, or health concerns.
  • Report equipment and maintenance needs to the membership director immediately.
  • Implement value‑add membership activities such as parents' night out, climbing wall, archery, etc.
  • Maintain activity‑based training requirements.
Requirements
  • Minimum age 16 years.
  • Experience working with youth in a structured setting.
  • Complete all required trainings prior to start; obtain CPR certification within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Working knowledge of computers (MS Word, MS Excel) preferred.
  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, character values, and leadership qualities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, problem‑solve, and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to supervise and interact with children in a professional and caring manner.
  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to hospitality.
  • Ability to care for hygiene needs of infants and toddlers (changing diapers, wiping noses, etc.).
  • Willingness to learn and implement branch‑based activities such as rock climbing, archery, arts and crafts, and enrichment.
  • Must pass a pre‑employment background check, drug screening, MVR, and reference check.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the U.S. without current or future sponsorship.
Ergonomic Requirements
  • Bending, stooping, standing, sitting, lifting up to thirty pounds.
  • Ability to change diapers, see, and hear.
  • Keyboard input required.
