Job summary

Colonial Downs Group, owned by Churchill Downs Incorporated, is seeking a Team Member to handle cash registers, electronic scanners, and related equipment to conduct monetary transactions with guests at one of our Virginia venues.

Responsibilities include greeting guests, operating POS systems, processing transactions, restocking, and promoting loyalty programs. The role requires basic math, strong guest service skills, and adherence to safety policies. Compensation is $15.00 per hour.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Serv-Safe certification must be obtained and maintained.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid racing license.
• One to three months experience in food & beverage or related field.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests warmly and provide attentive service throughout the visit.
• Operate POS systems to process sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Handle monetary transactions including cash, checks, and cards.
• Ensure accuracy of billing and issue receipts and change.
• Close out drawer and complete shift paperwork.
• Promote loyalty programs and venue promotions to guests.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation and equipment.
• Restock supplies and assist with menu knowledge updates as needed.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for use of cash registers, electronic scanners, and related equipment to conduct monetary transactions with guests.

Compensation: $15.00 per hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Greets guests on arrival and regards on departure in a warm and inviting manner.
• Checks cashier supplies such as register tape and upon arrival to ensure there is enough for the shift.
• Operating point-of-sale (POS) systems to process sales transactions accurately and efficiently.
• Prepares and sells all food items on the menu and handles all monetary transactions, such as cash, checks, credit/debit cards, and comps from guests as payment.
• Ensures accuracy in computing bill on cash register; makes correct change and issues receipt.
• Closes register at end of each shift to include counting down drawer and completing necessary paperwork.
• Greeting guests warmly, providing attentive service, and addressing inquiries or complaints professionally.
• Promoting loyalty programs, ongoing promotions, or venue offers to enhance guest engagement.
• Restocking shelves, organizing work area, and keeping the workstation area clean and orderly.
• Returns cash to the main bank, leaves a copy of shift checkout in the Restaurant Mailbox.
• Cleans and sanitizes food service equipment used to prepare and serve menu items.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of daily menus and prices.
• Interacts with guests to maintain great guest relations and provide opportunities for loyalty.
• Ensures and maintains cleanliness and orderliness of workstation.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
• Following safety, security, and company policies related to cash handling and guest interactions.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic math skills and proficiency with POS systems.
• Strong communication and guest service skills to interact efficiently with guests.
• Basic knowledge of menu items and guest service.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One to three months experience in food & beverage or related field.
• Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Must obtain and maintain Serv-Safe certificate.
• Must obtain and maintain a valid racing license.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS

• The Team Member will be required to stand for the duration of the shift.
• While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is frequently required to sit or stand; walk; use hands to finger reach, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear.
• The Team Member may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
• The Team Member may be required to work long hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• The work environment may vary in levels of crowds, noise, and smoke, depending on the assigned station and guest volume.
