Job summary

Discord seeks an Engineering Manager to lead a team of software engineers in shaping security strategy and tackling high-leverage opportunities to reduce risk across Engineering. The team will design and build user-friendly IAM and access controls, and secure software supply chains from development to production.

You’ll mentor engineers, balance security with product needs, and work across GCP, AWS, Cloudflare, and Kubernetes, using Python, TypeScript, and Rust to ship secure services.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience managing a team of 3+ security engineers.
• Passion for creating diverse and inclusive teams and coaching engineers.
• Ability to define and own the security roadmap.
• 3+ years securing systems with millions of users.
• Strong reasoning about security of complex systems.
• Experience securing cloud environments (GCP, Cloudflare, AWS).

Responsibilities

• Shape company-wide security strategy and lead a highly autonomous team of engineers.
• Build and operate IAM systems for humans and machines that are user-friendly and enforce least privilege.
• Secure software supply chains from development through CI/CD to production.
• Develop and apply secure baselines for cloud infrastructure.
• Manage infrastructure vulnerabilities while supporting a fast-moving engineering org.
• Consult on risk assessments, architectural designs, threat models, code reviews, balancing security with business needs.
