Role: Platform Manager

Location: Boston, MA (3 days onsite)

A leading global investment and financial services organization is seeking a Platform Manager to lead the day-to-day operation of critical AWS and Kubernetes environments. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who enjoys staying close to the technology while leading a high‑performing operations team. You'll be responsible for platform reliability, cloud governance, Kubernetes operations, incident management, and service delivery across a complex cloud infrastructure environment. Unlike traditional platform engineering leadership positions focused on roadmap execution and feature development, this role is centered on operational excellence, platform stability, user support, and team leadership. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with the ability to build accountability, improve processes, and lead through high‑pressure production situations.

Operational Leadership & Service Delivery

• Own the operational health, availability, and performance of AWS and Kubernetes platforms.
• Provide technical leadership and hands‑on support for complex cloud and Kubernetes issues.
• Lead a ticket-driven support model and ensure timely resolution of user requests.
• Establish and measure operational KPIs, SLAs, and service objectives.
• Drive a culture centered around execution, accountability, and customer service.

AWS Governance & Cloud Operations

• Define and enforce cloud governance frameworks, policies, and guardrails.
• Oversee IAM, account structure, access controls, security policies, and cloud compliance.
• Partner with security teams to reduce risk and strengthen cloud posture.
• Drive ongoing policy reviews, audits, and operational improvements.
• Support cost management and cloud optimization initiatives.

Kubernetes Operations & Platform Stability

• Own the lifecycle management of production Kubernetes environments.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts across cluster infrastructure, networking, storage, ingress, and application workloads.
• Oversee upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and performance optimization.
• Ensure effective monitoring, logging, alerting, and observability practices.
• Implement operational standards focused on reliability, scalability, and security.
• Partner closely with development teams to resolve deployment and application platform challenges.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for critical platform and cloud‑related issues.
• Participate in an after‑hours on‑call rotation supporting business‑critical systems.
• Lead incident response efforts and coordinate recovery during major outages.
• Conduct root cause analyses and implement long‑term corrective actions.
• Resolve escalations effectively before executive involvement is required.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of Cloud and Platform Engineers.
• Mentor team members across Kubernetes operations, AWS best practices, troubleshooting, and operational excellence.
• Establish clear ownership, performance expectations, and accountability.
• Conduct performance management, career development, and regular feedback conversations.
• Foster a culture of urgency, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

• Partner with engineering, product, security, and business teams to support platform needs.
• Balance operational priorities with long‑term stability and improvement initiatives.
• Act as a trusted technical partner across the organization.
• Drive alignment between platform capabilities and stakeholder requirements.

Required Experience

• 8+ years of cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or operations experience.
• 2+ years leading technical teams in a cloud or platform operations environment.
