Job summary

OpenAI is seeking an Engineering Manager for Platform FDE to lead a small team that multiplies the impact of the Forward Deployed Engineering organization. You will guide architecture, product shaping, refactoring, and reusable abstractions while preserving pod ownership of customer understanding.

This role is based in San Francisco or New York City, with a hybrid model of three days in the office each week and relocation assistance.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of engineering experience, including 2+ years managing high-performance engineers.
• Deeply customer-obsessed and able to partner credibly with senior stakeholders while maintaining technical rigor.

Responsibilities

• Lead a focused portfolio of platform incubation work with explicit hypotheses and success criteria.
• Architect, shape product direction, refactor, and build reusable abstractions with customer-tagged pods.
• Partner with B2B Platform and other durable owners to align on architecture and handoff criteria.
