Job summary

Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) is looking for a full-time Engineer to manage their OpenShift container platform. This role involves building and maintaining Kubernetes infrastructure while collaborating with development teams to ensure smooth transitions to microservices. Candidates should have a strong background in Kubernetes and automation tools.

The Engineer will also provide technical support, educate platform users, and participate in on-call rotations to manage production operations in a 24/7 environment. A degree in computer science/engineering is required.

Overview

Intercontinental Exchange presents a unique opportunity for a full‑time Engineer to join a team responsible for ICE OpenShift container platform. The Engineer will drive enablement and adoption to migrate high‑performant and critical applications into a microservices model utilizing container technologies by working closely with our development and engineering teams. This individual works as part of a results‑oriented, service‑delivery team and assists developers, configuration analysts, release engineers, developers, and operations teams. Additionally, the Engineer performs root cause analysis of problems, selects and implements automation tools, and actively participates in deeply technical discourse.

Responsibilities

• Build, support, and maintain Kubernetes and OpenShift platform infrastructure
• Provide technical analysis, resolve problems, propose, and implement solutions
• Provide support to, and coordinate with developers, operations staff, release engineers, and end‑users
• Educate and mentor platform consumers, team members and operations staff
• Participate in a weekly on‑call rotation for after‑hours support
• Respond to and assist in production operations in a 24/7 environment
• Troubleshooting platform issues and underlying configuration
• Create, maintain, and support Infrastructure‑as‑Code for Kubernetes Platform

Knowledge and Experience

• Degree in computer science/engineering discipline or equivalent experience in platform engineering.
• Understanding of major Kubernetes components and familiarity with Kubernetes concepts
• Horizontal and vertical scaling for performance and high availability
• Understanding of platform and application observability (tracing, logging metrics)
• Comprehension of top‑tier analytics and problem solving
• Ability to work in a service‑oriented team environment

Desired Knowledge and Experience

• Experience with self‑managed Kubernetes and/or OpenShift
• Experience with OpenShift deployments on‑prem and in commercial clouds
• Experience with Kubernetes policy engines, e.g. Kyverno
• Experience with Docker and/or Podman
• Build automation and configuration management
• Advanced scripting experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell, YAML)
• Experience with configuration management tools e.g. Ansible, Puppet, etc.
• Familiarity with AI toolsets and agentic troubleshooting
