Job summary

a16z Frontiers is hiring a Software Engineer to own and improve the internal developer platform and tooling. You will partner with teams across the firm to understand use-cases, reduce friction, and ship improvements that boost engineering velocity.

You will work on infrastructure, observability, and secure developer workflows, with in-office presence in San Francisco a few days a week. The role emphasizes collaboration, high-quality code, and continuous delivery, with opportunities to influence

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python 3, Rust or similar backend languages.
• Track record of shipping developer platforms or internal tooling that improved velocity.
• Experience deploying services on at least one major cloud platform (GCP, AWS, or Azure).
• Experience with containerized services (Docker); Kubernetes is a plus.
• Exposure to CI/CD systems (GitHub Actions, Cloud Build, CircleCI, or similar).
• Experience with production SQL databases (PostgreSQL/MySQL).
• Experience with IaC concepts (Terraform, Pulumi or similar).
• Ability to work with a diverse user group and maintain code quality.

Responsibilities

• Own and improve the internal developer platform and tooling.
• Collaborate with engineers across the firm to understand use-cases and reduce friction.
• Build shared tooling, templates, and libraries to accelerate product development.
• Ensure observability and security requirements are met for developer workflows.
• Write clear documentation, onboarding guides, and runbooks for adoption.
• Take ownership of projects from development through production support.
