Platform Engineer — Ingestion Engine

Job summary

Snowflake is seeking a Software Engineer to build the always-on ingestion execution platform that powers data ingestion at petabyte scale. You will own substantial platform work from design through production, with emphasis on reliability, isolation, and fair scheduling.

You will design and ship core platform capabilities, strengthen isolation, improve observability, and scale the control plane while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with neighboring teams.

Qualifications

• 3–6+ years building and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure in production.
• Track record of end-to-end ownership: design, code, and production ownership of cross-cutting problems.
• Strong proficiency in Java (Java-first codebase); C++ or systems-level experience is a plus.
• Experience in multi-tenant control planes, durable queues / at-least-once processing, distributed locking / leases / membership, cluster scheduling, or streaming/ingest execution engines.
• Instinct for correctness under failure: crashes, retries, redelivery, exclusive ownership.
• Clear written and verbal communication; able to argue technical points without ego.
• BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship core platform capabilities for multi-tenant isolation, fair scheduling, ownership and placement, durable queues, source monitoring, or compute allocation.
• Strengthen isolation and fairness across pipelines sharing the platform.
• Raise reliability and observability for pipeline health, ingest APIs, and compute allocation.
• Build a clean platform surface for product teams to describe pipelines and steps.
• Scale the control plane for more concurrent pipelines, higher ingest volume, and efficient use of resources.
• Operate what you ship with production support, improved observability, and automation; mentorship of junior engineers.
