Job summary

Global Payments Inc. is hiring a Platform Engineer II to join the GKOP Platform run by the Atlas team and help unleash the potential of every business. The role focuses on scalable OpenShift operations, IAM/security, and automation across a multi‑region environment.

The ideal candidate will bring strong container orchestration experience, AWS proficiency, and programming skills in Python or Golang, along with GitOps and CI/CD tooling expertise.

Qualifications

• This role requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 5+ years of experience or equivalent.
• Proven production experience with container orchestration technologies (OpenShift, Kubernetes).
• Strong background in containers and immutable infrastructure.
• Extensive AWS experience is required.
• Proficiency in Python or Golang.
• Experience with GitOps deployment tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
• Experience with CI/CD tooling like GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform.

Responsibilities

• Operate a multi‑region OpenShift platform across six AWS regions.
• Design and maintain declarative infrastructure using Kubernetes manifests.
• Build or integrate operators to reduce toil and enable self‑serve for teams.
• Own observability, monitoring, and logging across the platform.
• Implement container security controls to meet regulatory requirements.
• Troubleshoot and resolve platform incidents across the fleet.

What You’ll Own

• Multi‑region OpenShift platform operations — Manage at scale 25+ OpenShift clusters across six AWS regions, ensuring reliability, security, and performance for payment services.
• Infrastructure as Code & GitOps — Design and maintain declarative infrastructure using Kubernetes manifests.
• Kubernetes Operators & automation — Build or integrate operators that simplify infrastructure management, reduce toil, and enable consumer teams to self‑serve without platform team bottlenecks.
• Observability & platform health — Own monitoring, alerting, and logging across the platform.
• Container security & compliance — Implement and maintain security controls to support payment services and regulatory requirements.
• Incident response & troubleshooting — Debug platform issues across our fleet.

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or a related discipline plus 5+ years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience.
• Solid experience managing container orchestration technologies in production (e.g., RedHat OpenShift, Kubernetes).
• Strong background with containers and immutable infrastructure.
• Extensive experience working in Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Knowledge of or demonstrable experience in programming languages such as Python or Golang.
• Experience with GitOps deployment tools such as ArgoCD or Flux.
• Experience with continuous integration and delivery tooling (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Terraform).

It’s a Bonus If You Have

• Experience working in a global online business, ideally providing financial trades or transfers; interest in payment companies, merchant providers, financial trading platforms, or online gaming.
• Knowledge of security aspects of financial trading/monetary transfer systems, including PCI Compliance, DDoS prevention, IDS, container security, and regulatory audit requirements.
• Experience running Apache Kafka on Kubernetes (architecture, components, producers, consumers, deployment, configuration, optimization, ZooKeeper, brokers).
• Experience running persistence services on Kubernetes (e.g., Redis).
• Good knowledge of standard internet protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP) and relevant troubleshooting tools, and familiarity with Linux‑based operating systems.
