Barclays is seeking a Platform Engineer - AVP to design, build, and improve secure, scalable software platforms across cloud, container, AI, and enterprise environments. The role is based in Whippany, NJ, with a base salary range of $120,000 to $175,000 and benefits including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).

Qualifications

  • Experience designing and building secure, scalable software platforms.

  • Proficiency in Python, Java, or Go and building APIs and automation.
  • Extensive CI/CD experience and automation tooling.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

Accountabilities

  • Development and delivery of high-quality software solutions by using industry aligned programming languages, frameworks, and tools. Ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable, and optimized for performance.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies, and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations and actively contribute to the organization’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
  • Adherence to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data, and ensure secure software solutions.
  • Implementation of effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability, and reliability.

To be successful as a Platform Engineer - AVP, you should have:

  • Considerable cloud engineering foundations across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including computer, networking, storage, IAM, encryption, serverless, containers, and highly available multi-region or multi-AZ architecture

  • Experience software engineering capability in Python, Java, or Go, with the ability to build APIs, automation tools, infrastructure services, backend components, and clean, testable, maintainable code

  • Deep CI/CD and automation experience, including build, test, deploy pipelines, release automation, rollback strategies, secrets management, artifact promotion, and reusable pipeline templates for multiple teams

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management experience using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, or equivalent, with an emphasis on repeatability, auditability, scalability, and controlled change

  • Containerization and orchestration knowledge, including Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/ECS, Helm, GitOps, container registries, image hardening, and enterprise-grade deployment practices

Other highly valued skills include:

  • Platform observability and reliability knowledge, including logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, SLOs, alerting, incident response, root-cause analysis, and performance optimization

  • Security, risk, and coordinate awareness, including secure coding, vulnerability management, access structure, policy-as-code, data protection, and operational resilience

  • Developer experience and platform-product thinking, with the ability to create self-service capabilities, reusable templates, golden paths, documentation, and guardrails that improve engineering productivity

  • AI platform and GenAI enablement skills, including LLM integration, RAG patterns, embeddings, agentic frameworks, model serving, prompt safety, and AI/ML workload support

  • Enterprise collaboration and leadership capability, including mentoring engineers, influencing architecture strategies, guiding stakeholders, and aligning technology outcomes with business targets

This role is located in our Whippany, NJ office.

Minimum Salary: $120,000
Maximum Salary: $175,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.
