Job description

About Span Span exists to help engineering organizations turn AI adoption into real effectiveness. As AI tools reshape how software gets built, the companies that continuously improve how their teams use AI in their day‑to‑day will pull ahead. We’re the AI-native developer intelligence platform built for that moment. We’re looking for people who want to shape how the next generation of high‑performing engineering orgs operate.

We’re a Series A company with a small, focused team that moves fast and ships things that matter. We’re proud to be helping forward‑thinking orgs like Ramp, Carvana, Intercom, and OpenTable. We’re honored to be backed by dozens of founders, CTOs, and CPOs we admire from Slack, Notion, Rippling, Fivetran, Coda, Adobe, and Square, as well as funds including Alt Capital, BoxGroup, Bling, Craft, and SV Angel.

In this role, you’ll:

We’re looking for someone who gets excited about building the internal platforms, tooling, and systems that help engineering teams move faster, ship more reliably, and spend less time on operational overhead. Some example projects include:

  • Build AI‑powered platform tooling that identifies the root causes of recurring operational work (KTLO), automates repetitive tasks, and recommends long‑term engineering improvements.
  • Create an internal developer platform including a software catalog, service ownership model, and engineering portal that teams actually enjoy using, whether they’re working in microservices or monoliths.
  • Improve developer experience by building workflows, automation, and self‑service infrastructure that reduce cognitive load, streamline onboarding, and eliminate common sources of engineering friction.
  • Leverage LLMs and AI agents to automate platform operations, incident response, documentation, engineering support, and developer workflows.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to identify platform gaps, improve reliability, and build scalable infrastructure that enables product teams to focus on delivering customer value.
What we’re looking for:
  • Resourceful engineers who thrive in high‑agency, fast‑moving environments.
  • Experience building platform engineering, developer infrastructure, DevEx, SRE, or internal tooling.
  • You’ve been an early engineering hire, founder, or have built and shipped meaningful side projects from scratch.
  • Strong systems thinking with a passion for improving engineering productivity through thoughtful tooling and automation.
  • Experience building with LLMs, AI agents, and agentic workflows to solve real engineering problems.
  • Comfortable working across infrastructure, backend systems, and developer tooling.
Our Stack
  • Languages & Frameworks: TypeScript, NestJS, React, Python
  • Data & Infrastructure: Postgres, Redis, Kafka, Airbyte, Dagster
  • Cloud & Platform: AWS, Kubernetes, FluxCD

Compensation Range: $125K – $250K
