Job summary

Heitmeyer Consulting seeks a Senior Wires Platform Engineer to support Unix-based enterprise applications and evolve CI/CD, automation, and production support across the full software delivery lifecycle.

You will own configuration and reliability for critical systems on RHEL, collaborate across technology and risk, and lead incident response and performance tuning to ensure high availability.

Qualifications

• 8+ years supporting high-availability Unix/Linux production systems (RHEL/AIX/Solaris).
• Proficiency with CI/CD tooling (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD) and Git-based workflows.
• Strong scripting/automation: Bash and Python; experience with Ansible (or Puppet/Chef).
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL, SQL Server) and SQL tuning.
• Experience with messaging middleware (IBM MQ; Kafka/RabbitMQ a plus).
• Solid networking knowledge: DNS, load balancing, TLS/PKI, certificates.
• Observability tooling experience (Splunk/ELK, Prometheus/Grafana, Dynatrace) with alerting.
• Production support including on-call, incident/problem management.

Responsibilities

• Own platform reliability for critical apps on RHEL with 99.9%+ availability.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and release automation (Jenkins, GitLab).
• Automate deployment and configuration using Bash, Python, and Ansible/Puppet/Chef.
• Lead incident response: triage, root cause analysis, remediation, and post-incident learning.
• Implement observability with logs, metrics, traces; create dashboards and alerts.
• Performance engineering: capacity planning, tuning OS, JVM, MQ, DB connections.
• Manage security posture: patching, certificate/key management, hardening.
• Collaborate with BA, QA, devs, and release managers across the SDLC.
• Review designs for scalability, reliability, and risk controls.
• Create runbooks and SOPs; mentor juniors and lead design sessions.
• Participate in on-call rotation and change/release management.

Job Summary

Heitmeyer Consulting is currently seeking a Senior Wires Platform Engineer to support and evolve critical enterprise applications running on Unix-based platforms. You will be a collaborative member of our Core Payments Systems technology team, partnering with associates across Technology, Risk, and Business units to deliver scalable, highly available, and secure services for our clients. You will own application configuration, CI/CD, automation, incident management, performance tuning, and production support across the full software delivery lifecycle

Key Responsibilities

• Own platform reliability for critical applications on RHEL, targeting 99.9%+ availability
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and release automation (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), including artifact management, approvals, and rollbacks
• Automate deployment, configuration, and operational tasks using Bash, Python, and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible)
• Lead incident response: triage, root cause analysis, remediation, and post-incident learning; continuously reduce MTTR and change failure rate
• Implement and enhance observability (logs, metrics, traces) using tools such as Splunk/Dynatrace; create actionable dashboards and alerts
• Perform performance engineering: capacity planning, tuning (OS, JVM, MQ, DB connections), and throughput optimization
• Manage security posture: vulnerability remediation, patching, certificate and key management, and adherence to hardening standards
• Partner with business analysts, QA, developers, and release managers to deliver changes through the SDLC; contribute to requirements, design, testing, and documentation
• Review solution designs for scalability, reliability, and conformance with enterprise architecture and risk controls
• Create and maintain runbooks, standard operating procedures, and knowledge articles; mentor junior associates and lead technical design sessions
• Participate in on-call rotation and change/release management processes (e.g., CAB), including after-hours maintenance windows when required

Basic Qualification

• Experience with message-oriented middleware (e.g., IBM MQ; Kafka/RabbitMQ a plus
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, DNS, load balancing, TLS/PKI, and certificate
• Observability tooling experience (e.g., Splunk/ELK, Prometheus/Grafana, AppDynamics/Dynatrace) with practical alerting/dashboard
