Data Platform Administrator

The Data Platform Administrator will serve as the primary administrator and owner for the organization’s cloud-based data and analytics platforms, ensuring they are secure, reliable, well-governed, and enabled for business and data teams.

This role is primarily focused on platform administration rather than data analysis. Responsibilities include provisioning and managing databases, schemas, users, security roles, workspaces, permissions, and platform features; supporting data teams with their environments and connections; troubleshooting platform issues; and developing automation to streamline administrative processes.

The primary technologies supporting the environment include Sigma, Snowflake, Tableau, Alteryx, Alation, dbt, and Palantir. Sigma experience is the highest priority, followed by Snowflake. Candidates with deep hands‑on administration experience in at least one data platform are encouraged to apply and should demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn additional technologies.

The ideal candidate is technically curious, comfortable working independently, and interested in using automation, scripting, and AI-enabled tools to improve platform administration and provisioning.

Key Responsibilities
Data Platform Administration
  • Serve as the primary administrator and point of contact for assigned cloud‑based data and analytics platforms.
  • Perform day‑to‑day administration of platforms including Sigma, Snowflake, Tableau, Alteryx, Alation, dbt, and Palantir.
  • Provision and manage databases, schemas, users, security roles, permissions, workspaces, and other platform artifacts.
  • Configure and enable platform features based on business and technical requirements.
  • Manage authentication, access controls, security settings, and user lifecycle activities.
  • Support data and analytics teams in establishing environments and loading, accessing, and using data.
  • Monitor platform health, availability, capacity, and performance and address issues as needed.
  • Troubleshoot connectivity, access, configuration, and platform‑related issues.
Data Connectivity & Integration
  • Manage connections between cloud data platforms and organizational data sources, databases, cloud storage, APIs, and other systems.
  • Support data teams with connectivity and configuration requirements.
  • Assist with data integration and ETL/ELT‑related platform administration.
  • Maintain appropriate security and access controls across connected systems.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive administrative and provisioning activities.
  • Develop and maintain scripts and workflows using SQL, Python, APIs, and other automation tools.
  • Leverage AI and emerging technologies to improve platform administration, provisioning, troubleshooting, and user enablement.
  • Demonstrate an appetite for learning and applying new automation and AI capabilities, including AI‑assisted development and agent‑based workflows.
Security, Governance & Reliability
  • Implement and maintain appropriate security, access, authentication, and governance controls.
  • Support data governance and compliance requirements across administered platforms.
  • Coordinate backup and recovery responsibilities for assigned systems and ensure appropriate backup coverage.
  • Maintain documented procedures for administration, access management, recovery, and system support.
  • Maintain awareness of platform updates, new features, security changes, and industry best practices.
Documentation & User Enablement
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and administration guides.
  • Document platform configurations, ownership, access procedures, and backup responsibilities.
  • Assist with onboarding and enablement of users and data teams.
  • Provide guidance and best practices to users working within the supported platforms.
  • Collaborate with Data, Analytics, IT, Security, and other technical teams to resolve issues and support business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of hands‑on experience administering a data platform, cloud data platform, analytics platform, or similar technical environment.
  • Strong hands‑on expertise in at least one data platform, with the ability and willingness to learn additional platforms.
  • Experience with Sigma and/or Snowflake strongly preferred, with Sigma experience being particularly valuable.
  • Strong understanding of user provisioning, permissions, security roles, authentication, workspaces, schemas, databases, and platform configuration.
  • Proficiency with SQL.
  • Experience with Python or another scripting language for automation.
  • Understanding of data warehousing, databases, and ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues involving data platforms, connectivity, access, and configuration.
  • Strong problem‑solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross‑functional technical teams.
  • Demonstrated interest in automation and emerging AI technologies and the ability to identify opportunities to improve administrative processes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience administering Sigma, Snowflake, Tableau, Alteryx, Alation, dbt, or Palantir.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience with APIs, custom integrations, or automated provisioning.
  • Experience using AI‑assisted development tools, AI agents, Copilot‑style tools, or similar technologies to automate workflows.
  • Experience with enterprise‑scale data environments.
  • Knowledge of Active Directory, SAML, SSO, OAuth, or other authentication mechanisms.
  • Knowledge of information security, data governance, and compliance practices.
  • Relevant certifications in Snowflake, Sigma, Tableau, Alteryx, or other data platforms are a plus but are not required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • This is an onsite position requiring 4 days per week in the office.
  • The majority of supported platforms are cloud‑hosted, so routine responsibilities are focused on administration, user management, configuration, feature enablement, troubleshooting, and automation rather than traditional server patching or maintenance.
  • Routine after‑hours maintenance is limited; however, the role may occasionally require work outside standard business hours during major cloud or platform outages, critical incidents, or other urgent issues.
  • The position reports directly to the hiring manager and will initially have no direct reports.
  • The Data Platform Administrator will become the primary owner for designated platforms, with documented backup coverage established across the team.
Interview Process
  • Initial Interview: 30‑minute screening interview with the hiring manager.
  • Technical Assessment: Approximately 2 hours onsite, consisting of:
  • SQL and Python technical assessment
  • Technical/panel interview focused on platform administration, troubleshooting, and technical problem‑solving

Candidates may complete the technical assessment and panel interview on the same day or on separate days depending on scheduling.
