Job summary

Stand Insurance in San Francisco seeks an Applied Science DevOps Lead to guide the platform sub-team delivering Stand’s physics simulations, digital twins, and AI/ML pipelines. You’ll own technical direction, planning, and production delivery, aligning scientific goals with reliable, scalable platforms.

You’ll lead engineers, own production pipelines, CI/CD, geospatial workflows, and scalable ML infrastructure, partnering with science and business teams to drive measurable impact.

Qualifications

• Lead the platform sub-team and own delivery of critical software and infrastructure initiatives.
• Five+ years building production-grade data, simulation, or modeling pipelines with end-to-end automation and monitoring.
• Strong DevOps ownership: cloud infra, IaC, CI/CD, observability, and incident response for systems your team runs.
• Depth in distributed, data-heavy systems: debugging across APIs, preprocessing, modeling, and downstream consumers; cluster compute (SLURM, Kubernetes) and orchestration (Prefect, Airflow).
• Business judgment and succinct communication: translate SME needs into platform capabilities and balance research depth, timelines, and impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead the platform sub-team: set priorities, coordinate execution, and unblock the team.
• Manage and grow the team: 1:1s, feedback, performance, mentorship for scaling engineers.
• Design, build, and scale core systems across physics, AI, digital twins, CV, and spatial intelligence.
