Job summary

Bentley Systems is seeking a delivery-focused Senior Principal Engineer to own the end-to-end technical architecture of the Bentley Developer Platform. You will guide platform direction, write production code, review PRs, and act as the senior technical authority across teams.

The role emphasizes cloud-native design, API governance, and scalable, customer-facing developer experiences. In this hybrid Philadelphia-based position, you will partner with Product and Technology to define standards,

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering with large-scale systems.
• Own end-to-end platform architecture spanning frontend to API registry and analytics.
• Experience with enterprise API Management platforms and developer portal frameworks.
• Proven track record building an API platform by integrating tools and custom software.
• Collaborate with Product to define global API standards for monitoring, authentication, metering.
• Strong expertise in OAuth 2.0 / OIDC and security models.
• Hands-on with distributed systems, event streaming, API gateways, billing pipelines, ERP/settlement.
• Balance hands-on coding with effective cross-team communication.
• Familiarity with AI/agent integration patterns and MCP is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the architecture of the developer platform including gateway, auth, metering, and billing.
• Own end-to-end platform architecture from developer experience to registry and analytics.
• Collaborate with Product to set API standards for monitoring, auth, metering, and registration.
• Write production code and review PRs; mentor engineers as the senior technical contributor.
• Serve as primary technical interface between Developer Platform, Product, and tech teams.
