Job summary

GrayWolf Integrated Construction Company in Perdue Hill, AL is seeking Plate Welders for a 10-day outage starting 09/13/2026. Per Diem eligibility >60 miles. Flux & Stick Test Required.

This is a full-time position with a focus on safety and quality in a demanding field environment. A plate welder focuses on joining thick steel plates for tanks, vessels, and large structures. You will read blueprints, prepare material, set up equipment and weld with FCAW, SMAW and related processes while

Qualifications

• At least three (3) years minimum heavy industrial field experience as a Welder using FCAW Flux Core on steel plates.
• Completion of welding certification(s) required by company and/or client.
• Must have locking toolbox and tools necessary to perform the job.
• Ability to read blueprints and interpret erection manuals and details.

Responsibilities

• Welding Safety – work safely around the hazards associated with the construction field.
• Welding Tools – use hand, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and in a safe manner.
• Blue Print Reading – read and understand plans, drawings, and specs to guide welds.
• Prepare material for welding by cutting or grinding as needed.
• Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, FCAW, SMAW welding processes.

Summary:

A plate welder focuses on joining thick steel plates, often for applications like tanks, vessels, and large structures.

• Welding Safety – work safely around the hazards associated with the construction field.
• Welding Tools – use hand, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic tools and in a safe manner.
• Blue Print Reading – Correctly reads and understands plans, isometrics, arrangement drawings, details, specifications, erection manuals and/or blue prints and makes competent decisions based on measurable criteria.
• Visualizes objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.
• Secure components together applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
• Bolt, clamp and tack weld parts to secure in position for welding.
• Prepare material for welding by cutting or grinding using pipe cutters, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and/or grinder.
• Set material in stands, racks , hoists etc. for welding – filet and groove welding
• Set up equipment and weld parts using arc, gas shielded arc, self shielded arc, or gas welding equipment.
• Repair products by dismantling, straightening and reshaping.
• Reassemble parts using cutting torch, straightening press and hand tools.

Weld Test Details:

• ½” Thick carbon steel plates. 3 positions 2G, 3G and 4G
• Welding will be with .045" E71T-1 flux cored wire.
• Backing plates will not be used
• ½” Thick carbon steel plates. 2G, 3G and 4G
• SMAW process E7018
• Backing plates will not be used.

Qualifications:

• At least three (3) years minimum heavy industrial field experience as a Welder using FCAW Flux Core (dual shield welding) on steel plates.
• Welders who also have experience in TIG upon hiring at site, may be asked to complete further weld testing to weld on Inconel liner.
• Completion of welding certification(s) required by company and/or client.
• Must have locking toolbox and tools necessary to perform the job.
• Must be able to successfully complete all required pre-hire requirements.

Physical/Site Requirements:

• Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 45 pounds.
• Move in and around confined and cluttered places, and uneven areas. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent withage.
• Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperature extremes and other outsideconditions.
• Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders, andscaffolds.
• PPE footwear/prescription safety glasses or eye shields required.
