Job summary

Ryerson in Minnesota seeks a Plasma Burner to set up, operate and maintain plasma-cutting equipment. You will interpret drawings, adjust settings, monitor quality, and perform routine maintenance within a union shop on 2nd shift (2:30pm-11pm).

Onboarding includes enrollment in a registered apprenticeship. The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to lift and move materials in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Must pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail.
• Proven experience operating plasma-cutting or similar metal-cutting machinery.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Willingness to enroll in a registered apprenticeship during onboarding.
• Physically able to lift and move materials as needed.

As a Plasma Burner at Ryerson, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining plasma-cutting equipment to cut metal materials according to specified dimensions and shapes. Your primary duties will include interpreting technical drawings, adjusting machine settings, monitoring cutting processes, and ensuring quality control standards are met.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Set up and operate plasma cutting equipment to cut metal materials to precise dimensions and shapes
• Interpret technical drawings and specifications to determine cutting requirements
  Adjust machine settings such as cutting speed, gas flow, and torch height to optimize cutting performance
• Monitor cutting processes to ensure the accuracy and quality of cut pieces
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on the plasma-cutting equipment
• Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols to maintain a safe work environment

Requirements

• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding

Salary: This position is a Union position. Per Union contract this position pays $30.68. New employees hired shall receive eighty percent (80%) of the full rate for the first six months of employment, ninety percent (90%) of the rate for the next six months, and 100% of the rate after twelve months.
