Job summary

Gibson Abrasive Equipment in Fishers, IN seeks an Plasma Cutting Operator to set up and run plasma cutting machines for sheet metal according to blueprints, and to maintain steel inventory.

You will read blueprints, select electrodes and gas pressures, adjust amperage, operate grinders, and ensure burr removal. This is a physically demanding, safety‑conscious role on site.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent is required; trade school with mechanical training is strongly preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing/fabrication environment.

• Selects proper amperage using computer database.
• Remove parts from plasma table, discard skeleton of sheet and grind all parts to remove burrs.

Operate plasma cutting equipment to cut sheet metal to specified dimensions by interpreting blueprints and physical layout. Also responsible for maintaining steel inventory.

Position Responsibilities

Role Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent is required; trade school with mechanical training is strongly preferred.

Essential Skills

• Must be able to operate power hand tools such as pneumatic grinders.

Beneficial Skills And Experience

• Previous experience working on plasma cutting systems is desired.
• Previous experience operating press brakes to bend steel up to ¼” thick preferred.
• Experience operating a fork truck and overhead cranes is beneficial.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• Capable of standing for long periods of time and be able to bend, stoop, kneel and occasionally climb ladders.
• Ability to use both hands to lift, feel and position metal sheets and plates.
• Ability to wear PPE including safety glasses, hand, foot and hearing protection for extended time periods.
