Job summary

CSL in New York is seeking a Plasma Donor Center Technician to support the collection of plasma from donors. You will perform venipuncture, monitor the pheresis process and follow SOPs to ensure donor safety and product quality.

You will set up donors, monitor during collection, document procedures and help educate first-time donors about the process, health screening, and center policies while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum twelve (12) months experience in a medical or health care environment preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• For Centers located in CA the following experience is also required: persons performing automated plasmapheresis procedures must be at a minimum state certified as a Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, OR current Registered Nurse by the State of California.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the efficient and effective collection of plasma from donors by performing venipuncture and monitoring the pheresis process following SOPs.
• In compliance with SOPs, performs donor setup, monitoring and disconnect.
• In compliance with SOPs and FDA guidelines, performs venipuncture to begin pheresis.
• Evaluates vein performance and makes corrections to expedite donation while ensuring donor safety and product quality.
• Educates new donors on plasma products, screening, appointment system, center policies, nutrition and related information.
• Maintains alertness to donor reactions and assists or notifies staff as needed.
• Uses PDA to record incidents during pheresis, including alarms, volume variances and adverse events.
• Performs calibrations and ensures maintenance as outlined in SOPs; addresses complex alarms or donor issues.
• Troubleshoots equipment failures and creates incident documentation; replaces equipment as needed.
• Monitors donor flow to ensure continuous turnover and notifies leadership of issues.
• Collects arm or whole blood samples for testing and records donor data in the electronic donor information system.
• Understands policies for hyper immune programs where applicable.
• Maintains a clean, safe work environment and follows HSE/OSHA policies; promotes safety.
• Maintains donor, personnel and center information confidentiality.
• May be cross-trained in other areas; bilingual skills may be required.
