Job summary

The University at Buffalo seeks a Plant Utilities Assistant to operate stationary boilers and support the power plant’s mechanical systems. You will maintain boilers, chiller, pumps, and auxiliary equipment, troubleshoot calls, and ensure safe, efficient operation in a dynamic campus environment.

Responsibilities include supervising helpers as needed, testing boiler water, taking meters/readings, and coordinating with maintenance and operations to minimize downtime while upholding safety

Qualifications

• Maintains and repairs chiller, boilers, pumps, and power plant auxiliary equipment.
• Operates and tests boiler water and water softeners for correct limits.
• Takes readings on meters and gauges to ensure proper operation.
• Responds to mechanical, electrical or plumbing breakdowns and assists with repairs.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair chiller, boilers, pumps, other power plant auxiliary equipment, and electrical and mechanical stationary equipment.
• Respond to calls concerning mechanical, electrical or plumbing breakdowns to troubleshoot and repair or advise authority.
• Check mechanical rooms for correct operation of mechanical equipment.
• Operate and test water softeners and boiler water for correct limits.
• Take readings on meters and gauges to ensure proper operation.
• Check air compressors, blow down and add oil as needed.
• May supervise Plant Utilities Helpers as required.
