SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY is seeking a skilled Stationary Engineer/Facilities Engineer to operate, maintain and repair high-pressure boiler systems, HVAC equipment, pumps, and emergency generators. The role requires reading gauges, performing diagnostics, and ensuring safety compliance.

Qualified candidates will have relevant licenses or degrees and substantial hands-on experience in facilities engineering or HVAC maintenance.

Qualifications

Possession of a High-Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer License or Stationary Engineer License.
Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Marine Engineering.
Four years of full-time hands-on experience in maintenance and operation of HVAC systems or boilers.
Four years of hands-on experience in a residential setting diagnosing and repairing HVAC systems or boilers.
An associate’s degree in HVAC AND two years of qualifying experience as described above.
Completion of an HVAC certificate or diploma from a BOCES program (900 hours) AND two years of qualifying experience.
Graduate of HVAC apprenticeship from US Air Force.
Coast Guard certified marine engineer or merchant marine engine department veteran.
US Navy enlisted gas turbine systems technician or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

Operate, maintain and repair high pressure/temperature hot water and steam systems and related equipment.
Inspect and troubleshoot equipment; read gauges and meters; use hand and power tools.
Follow safety protocols incl. mask use and fit testing as required.
Assist in maintaining building analytics and energy platforms.
Work shifts including evenings, weekends, and nights with overtime eligibility.
