Job summary

The New York State Department of Health is seeking a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 to operate, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical equipment delivering heat, steam, hot water, ventilation, air conditioning and electrical distribution in a safe, efficient manner.

This role may supervise Plant Utilities Assistants, helpers, contractors and tradespeople, and requires the ability to work in confined spaces and coordinate with capital projects and facility operations to ensure continuous

Qualifications

• Transfer opportunity: NYS employee with one year or more of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Plant Utilities Engineer 1 (G-14).
• Familiar with energy conservation in a laboratory facility, laboratory capital equipment, specialized HVAC systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs, emergency response, back-up power and generator systems, supervision, shift work, and facility procurements.
• Arc flash and lockout-tagout procedures; universal refrigeration certification is a plus.
