Plant Specialist/Engineer

Minnkota Power is seeking qualified candidates for a Plant Specialist position requiring an Associate of Science in an applicable field, or a Plant Engineer position requiring a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering. The position is located at the Milton R. Young Station near Center, ND.

The Milton R. Young Station is a two-unit coal-fired power plant providing a stable energy source for our cooperative member-owners. It is situated 35 miles from Bismarck, North Dakota, a growing city with many recreational opportunities.

  1. Coordinate the preparation of construction drawings and specifications for plant process equipment.
  2. Design and install new and replacement equipment (for Plant Engineer).
  3. Work with consultants and contractors to achieve engineering objectives.
  4. Troubleshoot existing systems with operations and maintenance teams to resolve safety or production issues using engineered solutions.
  5. Identify technical and operational training needs and initiate related projects.
  6. Monitor work activities to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
  7. Assist in record-keeping of system work orders, drawings, and data files.
  8. Analyze plant data and provide recommendations.
  9. Monitor and recommend new technologies to improve plant efficiency, reliability, and longevity.
  10. Support other departments as needed.
  11. Manage boiler, air heater, and gas path maintenance activities.
  12. Monitor boiler operating conditions.
  13. Perform or assist with engineering work and inspections.

Qualifications: A degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering for the Plant Engineer position, or a technical field degree with a welding background for the Plant Specialist. 2-5 years of power plant experience is preferred but not mandatory.
