Position Summary:We are seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Assistant to support daily lab and greenhouse operations within a small, collaborative team. This role emphasizes aseptic technique and plant science, and it requires someone dependable, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong independent and team-working skills, along with a solid understanding of biological or plant pathology practices.
Key Responsibilities:Media Preparation:- Prepare research media, tubes, and bottles with specific solutions.
- Clean, rinse, and autoclave glassware and lab equipment.
- Operate basic lab instruments.
Plant Material & Inoculum Handling:- Assist with setting up plant trays, tagging, and applying treatments.
- Mark and move plants for mobility tests and harvesting.
- Support inoculation and harvesting of plant stock.
Chemical Handling & Safety:- Safely handle and apply fungicides and other research chemicals.
- Wear and maintain PPE, including PAPRs, in compliance with safety protocols.
- Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of all chemicals.
Housekeeping & General Support:- Maintain cleanliness in lab and greenhouse areas.
- Wash and move carts, cut flats into single pots.
- Bag, weigh, and dispose of plant material.
- Stock supplies and replace hazardous/non-hazardous waste containers.
Qualifications:Education & Experience:- Background in Biology or Plant Pathology preferred.
- 1–2 years of relevant experience may substitute for formal degree requirements.
Essential Skills:- Proficiency in aseptic techniques.
- Experience with fungal culture preparation and inoculation.
- Strong understanding of lab safety and contamination prevention.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
