Our client is an established and growing advanced materials manufacturing organization seeking a hands-on Plant Quality & Process Excellence Manager to lead the Quality function at a key manufacturing facility in the Statesville / North Charlotte area.
This is much more than a traditional quality-compliance position.
The successful candidate will own the site's Quality Management System, lead and develop the Quality team, partner directly with Engineering and Operations, interface with customers and suppliers, and use data-driven problem solving to improve process capability, reduce defects, and strengthen overall manufacturing performance.
This opportunity is ideal for a Quality leader who enjoys being on the manufacturing floor, solving technical problems, developing people, improving systems, and driving measurable improvements in quality and cost.
You will have the ability to influence the entire plant and work directly with site and business leadership.
What You'll Own
Quality Management System
- Lead and continuously improve the site's Quality Management System (QMS).
- Maintain compliance with ISO 9001 and applicable customer, regulatory, and internal quality requirements.
- Develop, maintain, and improve quality procedures, standards, specifications, and control systems.
- Lead internal quality and process audits and ensure timely closure of corrective actions.
- Facilitate Quality Management Review meetings and communicate QMS performance to leadership.
- Establish strong documentation, change-control, and corrective-action discipline throughout the plant.
Process Quality & Continuous Improvement
- Apply SPC, DOE, Six Sigma, FMEA, Pareto analysis, statistical analysis, and root-cause methodologies to improve process capability and product consistency.
- Partner closely with Process Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve complex production and quality problems.
- Develop and maintain control plans, process specifications, operating tolerances, quality assurance plans, and statistical process controls.
- Identify the root causes of scrap, defects, customer complaints, and process variation and implement sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
- Lead initiatives to reduce internal defects, external defects, supplier issues, customer complaints, and cost of poor quality.
- Use quality and process data to identify trends before they become customer issues.
Customer Quality
- Serve as the primary site-level contact for significant customer quality concerns, complaints, audits, and improvement plans.
- Lead structured root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
- Communicate technical findings and corrective-action plans clearly to customers.
- Ensure customer requirements are translated into practical manufacturing and quality controls.
- Build strong relationships with customers through responsiveness, technical credibility, and disciplined follow-through.
- Evaluate supplier quality performance and quality systems.
- Partner with Procurement, Operations, and suppliers to resolve incoming-material and supplier-performance issues.
- Develop corrective actions and supplier-quality improvement plans when necessary.
- Identify supply-chain quality risks and strengthen risk-mitigation strategies.
New Products & Process Development
- Partner with Engineering, Operations, and commercial teams during new-product introduction, commercialization, and process changes.
- Apply FMEA, DOE, SPC, process capability, and risk-management tools during product and process development.
- Ensure manufacturing processes are capable, controlled, and properly documented before full-scale production.
- Support product optimization and continuous process improvement after launch.
Quality Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and develop Quality Engineers, technicians, laboratory personnel, and other Quality team members.
- Establish clear expectations, objectives, and accountability.
- Develop technical capabilities across the Quality organization.
- Conduct performance reviews, coaching, development planning, and cross-training.
- Build a culture where quality is owned across the entire manufacturing organization rather than solely by the Quality department.
