Job summary

Owens Corning is seeking a Plant Quality Manager to lead the site quality program at the Stokesdale, NC plant. You will define and drive a consistent quality message, implement inspection and auditing systems, and establish site-level quality metrics and reporting.

The role requires coaching and developing the QA team, applying data-analytics and problem solving to sustain a robust quality process, and partnering with production to prevent defects and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or an associate degree with 4 years of experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years in a quality production environment.
  • Supervisory or managerial experience in quality processes.
  • Lean GB certification desired or obtainable within 1 year.
  • CQM or Certified Quality Auditor certification desired or obtainable within 1 year.
  • Proven leadership skills with people/projects/processes.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Subject matter expert on quality inspection and audit processes.
  • Proficient in Six Sigma, SPC, MS Excel, Visio, DOE, DFR.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access.
  • Lead under crisis to ensure compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure site audit readiness and host Quality System audits.
  • Own site compliance assessment and remediation; lead communications for Quality matters.
  • Review SOPs for directives and compliance.
  • Educate non-QA staff and develop the QA team.
  • Monitor and analyze product and process quality.
  • Drive continuous improvements via data analysis.
  • Collaborate with production to identify root causes of defects.
  • Develop preventative measures to limit quality defects.
  • Communicate quality goals and standards; manage SOPs and vendor docs.
  • Lead cross-functional quality improvement teams.
  • Prepare QA reports and trend analyses.
  • Promote Lean improvements and process excellence at the plant.
  • Manage RMA/RFC processes including corrective actions.

Plant Quality Manager

The Quality Manager is responsible for leading and driving a consistent message about Owens Corning Quality with an emphasis on defining and implementing a quality inspection, auditing, and driving the definition of a site quality metrics, reporting and operating mechanisms. The Quality Manager will be expected to coach and develop team members, improve skill sets, identify best practices and optimize the use of quality tools to enable the team to provide superior quality. Maintains quality compliance by identifying quality requirements; disseminating standards, policies, and procedures; conducting audits; recommending process improvement plans. This position must understand data-collection analytics, problem solving, and metric reporting to build a sustainable quality process at the plant level.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensures site audit readiness and host the Quality System audits and executes Quality Management System reviews.
  • Owns site compliance assessment and remediation, leads communication and training requirements for Quality matters.
  • Review standard operating procedures for company directives and compliance.
  • Responsible for site education of non-Quality Assurance personnel, responsible for professional development of the site Quality Assurance team.
  • Monitor, control, and analyzes product and process quality to meet internal and external customer requirements.
  • Determine through statistical data continuous improvements projects.
  • Partner with production in detecting root causes for defects during production phases.
  • Work with management staff in analyzing data for purpose of developing and implementing preventative measures to limit or eliminate quality defects.
  • Communicate quality goals and requirements by preparing and disseminating standards, metrics, standard operating procedures (SOP) management, vendor document and production record guidelines.
  • Improve quality compliance by recommending and following-up on improvement plans, writing training courses, and contributing information to cross-functional quality improvement teams.
  • Prepare quality assurance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends.
  • Facilitate Lean process improvement opportunities throughout the plant and be the plant ambassador for quality and process excellence.
  • Responsible for site RMA/RFC process to include evaluation, processing, and corrective actions and disposition.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred (or associate degree plus 4 years practical experience)
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience and understanding of a quality production environment.
  • Supervisor or Managerial experience in a work environment with proven quality processes.
  • Lean GB certification is highly desired or ability to attain within 1 year.
  • Certified Quality Manager (CQM) or Certified Quality Auditor certification from ASQ highly desired or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Proven leadership skills (experience successfully managing people/projects/processes/issues).
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Subject matter expert (SME) on all Quality Inspection & Audit process with defined CARS and remediation to drive performance optimization.
  • Excellent understanding of Quality Management Tools to include Six Sigma, Statistical Process Control, MS-Excel, Visio, DOE, DFR, etc.
  • Ability to multi-task & handle task with competing priorities.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Microsoft office programs including MS-Excel, MS Word, and MS Power-Point, MS Access or comparable programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, acknowledge, develop people and implement a strategy under crisis situations to ensure compliance.
