Job summary

Owens Corning is seeking aCorporate Quality Engineer to drive structured quality improvements across the organization, with involvement in new product introductions and capital delivery validation. The role partners with the Doors Technology Center to enhance product construction.

The position reports to the Corporate Quality Manager-Interior, Doors and requires 75% travel, with onsite work in Charlotte during non-travel weeks.

Qualifications

• Lean and/or Six Sigma experience; Green/Black belt preferred.
• Proficient with quality tools (Ishikawa Diagrams, 5-Why, 8D, FMEA, SPC, PPAP).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to present data effectively.
• Basic product & process knowledge in millwork/door/particle board/MDF manufacturing desirable.
• Experience with ISO9000 quality system requirements desired.
• Ability to travel 75% of the time; onsite in Charlotte during non-travel weeks.

Responsibilities

• Lead improvement projects in plants using Six Sigma to reduce scrap/rework via better process control and mistake proofing.
• Increase quality competencies by training manufacturing teams on quality tools and systems.
• Participate in all plant PFMEA and Control Plan updates.
• Create and maintain corporate quality processes/procedures for OC Doors Plants.
• Conduct process audits and provide guidance to plant quality teams.
• Lead trials for improvement projects and PPAP for new product development.
• Report on quality metrics to promote continuous improvement.

The Corporate Quality Engineer is responsible for driving structured quality improvement efforts with sustainable results across the organization. This position will also play a key role in new product introductions as well as validating capital delivery efforts. As needed, this position will partner with the Doors Technology Center to identify product construction enhancements.

Reports to: Corporate Quality Manager-Interior, Doors

Span of Control: Quality improvement projects and Quality Management System implementation within Doors Interior Plants.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Strategy Execution

• Lead improvement projects in the plants utilizing Six Sigma tools to reduce scrap/rework through improved process control and mistake proofing methods.
• Increase quality competencies by providing leadership and training to the manufacturing teams on quality tools and systems.
• Participate in all plant PFMEA and Control Plan update activities.
• Create and maintain corporatequalityprocesses/procedures and ensure content is appropriate for OC Doors Plants.
• Conduct process audits and assist in training/guidance to plants and other auditors.
• Lead effort to train plants to achieve Doors QMS certification.
• Conduct product/raw material audits and provide training/guidance to plantqualityteams.
• Coordinate and lead manufacturing trials for improvement projects and new product development projects (PPAP).
• Undertake special projects as required.
• Report on quality metrics to promote continuous improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• LEAN and/or Six Sigma Experience (Green belt or Black belt is preferred)
• Skilled in using and trainingqualitytools (i.e., Ishikawa Diagrams, 5-Whys, 8D, Gage R&R, FMEA, SPC, PPAP, etc.)
• Skilled in Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to present data effectively.
• Basic product & process knowledge in millwork, door, particle board, or MDF manufacturing is especially desirable.
• Experience with ISO9000 quality system requirements is desired.
• Ability to travel 75% of the time is required. Onsite in Charlotte office during weeks of non travel.
