Responsibilities
- Lead and approve APQP activities throughout development to post-launch (VPDS G3 to G6) phase to ensure the quality of the event.
- Participate and coordinate with PD and manufacturing engineering during BOM quotes for new programs.
- Work with program team and interface with customer to ensure customer specific requirements (CSR) are followed through KPIs.
- Review and understand customer scorecard and access customer portal to understand customer quality deliverables such as PPM and warranty targets, problem resolution expectations.
- Drive team to review CSR and review in detail quality items like warranty, PPM, QR, MSA requirements, dimensional, and provide feedback to CBU for feasibility.
- Participate in technical design reviews and work with the program core team on developing risk assessment tools such as DFMEA, SCIF, PFMEA, and control plans.
- Ensure quality requirements are reviewed during design and launch reviews.
- Ensure Design for Manufacturing, Design for Quality methods, and Lessons Learned are incorporated by the Program Core Team.
- Lead Quality Core Tool Workshops (QCTW) and follow-up on closure of opportunities identified in workshops.
- Participate and ensure integrity joint check workshops during the pilot phase to ensure a safe launch.
- Participate in internal and customer run at rate to identify top process quality issues and address them through corrective actions.
- Prepare quality inspection reports for each prototype build and ensure product integrity.
- Track PPAP deliverables to customers during development and pilot phases (VPDS G3-G5).
- Work with tooling specialists to review and analyze dimensional data and quality of first tool tryout molded parts.
- Support all gauges’ development during Gate 1 to Gate 3, ensuring the right gauges are available in quotes, tracking and proving out gauges, and responsible for gauges from Gate 4-5.
- Support dimensional convergence engineering during capability, gauge certification, and R&R studies.
- Develop and monitor the overall dimensional plan for the program, including GD&T, measurement points, datum schemes, etc.
- Catalyst and coach for AIAG Core Tools application, make training plans, and escalate non-compliance.
- Review and update quality department procedures and train staff accordingly.
- Organize all QRE tools like suitcase testers, spare parts kits, etc., for new models.
- Lead teams to use VPRS for test failures, identify root causes, and create lessons learned.
- Review component drawings and understand application requirements and specifications.
- Analyze and follow up on internal and customer quality issues.
- Responsible for incoming parts quality inspection until the incoming quality engineer is onboarded.
- Work with organizations or suppliers to implement advanced manufacturing technologies to reduce customer quality concerns.
- Lead and manage quality personnel and third-party companies at manufacturing and assembly plants.
- Ensure resources are available and trained for activities up to launch (Gate 5).
- Escalate non-compliance issues to project management and functional managers.
- Work with the core team to build prototypes and oversee manufacturing processes, ensuring control plans are followed.
- Collaborate with design and industrialization groups for CAD analysis to resolve prototype and pre-production issues.
Education Requirement(s)- Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline.
Experience Requirement(s)- Minimum 3 years’ experience in quality within automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environments.
- Strong understanding of Core Tools (APQP, SPC, MSA, FMEA, PPAP), Control Plans, and Process Flows.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis and practical problem solving.
- Proficiency in business operating systems.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing processes (molding, coating, assembly, electronics, etc.).
- Understanding of design output, metrology, and instrumentation concepts.
- Ability to travel frequently to multiple locations as needed.
