Job summary

University of California, Davis is seeking a Nursery Technician to assist in production and maintenance of plant material in greenhouses and related facilities. You will support disease testing, seasonal collection and distribution of plant material, and provide lab and field support as needed.

The role emphasizes pruning, propagation, soil handling and precise labeling, with a 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, Monday–Friday schedule, 100% on-site at Davis.

Qualifications

• Valid California driver’s license and driving record per local policies.
• No minimum education required.
• Experience pruning, staking, tying plants and moving plant material among greenhouse locations.
• Experience matching plant names/numbers from lists.
• Experience lifting soil medium bales/bags and mixing soil components.
• Ability to read and write English.
• Knowledge of plant propagation techniques (seed, runners, cuttings, budding/grafting).
• Knowledge of pesticide safety and protective clothing.

Responsibilities

• General maintenance of plant material and greenhouse areas.
• Propagation tasks including rooting, cuttings, and seed handling.
• Watering and fertilizing to sustain healthy plants.
• Accurate labeling of plant lots and shipments.
• Apply insecticides following safety protocols.
• Prepare growing media and other horticultural tasks.
