Qualifications

Summary

Position Highlights:

The Plant Operator I performs demand and scheduled preventive maintenance of the facility equipment, primarily including Mechanical, Utilities, and associated systems, in accordance with departmental, hospital, and regulatory agency codes. Specific duties include maintaining facilities and equipment in hospital or clinic environments.

Responsibilities:

• Demonstrates technical knowledge depth for mechanical, utilities, and associated systems according to standards established by management. Can identify different types of mechanical tools and materials and knows how to use them, with basic math skills.
• Performs general maintenance repairs and other duties as assigned, following the Unit Specific Competency Checklist, and performs work within the skill sets required for the job.
• Responds to emergency situations, including disaster response, utility loss, floods, etc., to minimize impact on the facility.
• Ensures all work is performed using proper PPE, including Arc Flash protection, and demonstrates proficiency with basic power and hand tools.
• Demonstrates knowledge and safe use of power tools utilized in construction trades, maintaining them properly.

• Responsible for the safe and proper operation of equipment as noted in the Unit Specific Competency Check.
• Demonstrates the ability to use maintenance equipment, including hand-held power tools, building automation systems, and computerized maintenance management systems, and to collaborate effectively with others.
• Provides complete documentation as required, including work orders and compliance records.
• Performs basic infection prevention procedures.
• Identifies necessary changes on prints and notifies supervisors of modifications to existing spaces and new projects.
• Works from blueprints, estimates projects, and creates bills of materials. Plans, organizes, and coordinates small projects.
• Possesses knowledge and skills for a Third-Grade Stationary Engineer's license.
• Assists with, oversees, or inspects repairs or modifications by contractors.
• Manages individual inventory following departmental controls, demonstrates safe work practices, OSHA compliance, and effective communication and customer service skills.
• Demonstrates planning, coordination, estimating, scheduling, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Uses maintenance diagnostics to facilitate repairs and creates bills of materials from blueprints.
• Maintains documentation manuals for mechanical equipment and procedures.
• Performs other duties as needed, including identifying different types of solder and mechanical materials, and understanding components of condensate pumps.

Credentials and Experience:

• High School Diploma
• Valid Florida Driver's License
• Six (6) years of experience as a Chiller/Boiler Service Technician
• Ability to work various shifts and weekends as needed
• Ability to travel between Moffitt facilities
• Good driving record per Moffitt policy

Preferred:

• Three (3) years of hospital-related experience in a similar field
