ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Summary/Objective:
The Plant Operator oversees and ensures the efficient and productive operations of the assigned area. Mid-Atlantic Region: Annapolis, MD; Gambrills, MD; Jessup, MD; Seat Pleasant, MD.
Essential Functions:
- Oversee all plant operations and coordinate and monitor daily workload throughout the plant, including plant cleanliness.
- Manage all drivers, operators, and personnel at the plant. Respond promptly to employee concerns and complete necessary personnel paperwork.
- Coordinate scheduling with Dispatch and monitor driver activity to meet customer needs efficiently.
- Address all complaints and concerns in a timely manner.
- Maintain adequate supplies of all materials (fuel, cement, admixtures, fiber mesh, etc.) and keep accurate reports.
- Ensure proper operation of the concrete plant and equipment through regular inspections and maintenance.
- Maintain proper levels of aggregates and admixtures, including keeping hoppers full.
- Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, notifying personnel of potential issues.
- Take samples, perform tests, and complete documentation; inform Technical Services of quality issues.
- Keep the plant and equipment clean, wash outside surfaces, maintain grounding, and ensure equipment is stored properly.
- Operate vehicles and equipment safely.
- Perform pre and post-trip inspections and complete inspection reports.
- Follow environmental regulations and clean up excess materials to prevent environmental issues.
- Perform miscellaneous duties such as cleaning, sweeping, shoveling, and moving supplies as needed.
Non-Essential Functions:
- Assist with cleanup of spills.
- Fill in for colleagues as needed.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Work Environment:
- Work is split between indoor/office and outdoor/field settings.
- Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals (concrete, admixtures, grease, oil).
- Proximity to moving mechanical parts.
- Moderate to loud noise levels.
Physical Demands:
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. repeatedly.
- Reach overhead and away from the body.
- Sit, walk, stand, climb, or kneel for specified durations.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Experience:
- Experience operating heavy equipment such as front-end loaders.
Skills:
- Effective written and verbal communication, basic math, and computer skills.
- Ability to learn dispatch systems and software applications.
- Ability to perform basic material calculations.
- Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate organizational skills.
- Problem-solving skills.
Certifications:
- State Certified Concrete Technician (must be obtained within 1 year).
Education:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
