Job summary

Dead River Company is seeking a Plant Worker in Auburn, ME to support propane storage facility operations and ensure efficient, safe handling of tanks and cylinders. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, tank offloading, inventory management and adherence to safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance of the bulk plant for safety and efficiency.
  • Oversee offloading of propane from rail cars where applicable.
  • Assist with loading/unloading propane cylinders.
  • Inspect condition of used propane tanks and prepare new tanks.
  • Maintain inventory of propane gas and related parts.
  • Coordinate inventory with purchasing personnel.
  • General housekeeping of buildings, grounds and tanks.
  • Learn codes and regulations for safe propane storage and handling.
  • Assist with decaling of propane tanks.

Job description

Hourly Pay $29.00-$25.00/hr. - Depending on Experience.

Position Summary:

Safely and productively assist with propane storage facility operations to ensure efficient operation of the facility including tank processing and inventory control.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with the overall maintenance of the bulk plant to ensure that all procedures are safe and efficient.
  • Overseas the offloading of propane from rail cars (where applicable)
  • Assists with the loading or unloading of propane cylinders entering or leaving the facility.
  • Inspects the physical condition of used propane tanks. Prepares new tanks for installation.
  • Maintains inventory of both propane gas and various propane related parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates inventory requirements with purchasing personnel.
  • Participates in general housekeeping of the buildings, grounds and tanks.
  • Gains knowledge of codes and regulations relating to the proper storage and handling of propane gas.
  • Assists with the decaling of propane tanks.

Contacts:

Plant workers deal with truck drivers, other employees and equipment and parts supply vendors.

Decisions Made:

The plant worker makes decisions regarding the appropriate steps to take in daily propane plant operations. Complex problems or unusual issues are referred to the manager in charge.

Safety Considerations:

Safety considerations relate to safe operation of the propane bulk plant, wearing appropriate personal protective safety equipment, proper lifting of heavy parts or equipment, and general observation of the surroundings where work is being done.

Equipment Used:

All types of hand tools, power tools, cranes and lifting devices, and appropriate gauges and meters.

Temperatures can vary from below zero to above 90 degrees, depending on the time of year. Since the job involves working with propane gas, there is some exposure from the product and the odorant added to the gas.

Physical Requirement Analysis:

  • The position requires frequent standing, walking, and sitting
  • There is occasional to frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing
  • There is frequent use of the hands/arms to reach, feel, handle, lift or pull
  • There is frequent communication involving both talking and listening

Weight or Force Moved:

Plant workers move various sized objects and tanks weighing from a few pounds to over 100 pounds. When very heavy objects are moved mechanical assistance is available or the plant worker can ask for help.
