Job summary

Lofton Staffing is seeking a Plant Mechanical Engineer to support the safe design, construction, commissioning, startup, and reliable operation of a major heavy-industrial facility in Ascension Parish near Baton Rouge.

You’ll lead design review, equipment specs, startup planning, and day-to-day operations, while developing procedures and mentoring technicians to meet safety and performance goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or related engineering discipline
• 6+ years of mechanical or rotating-equipment engineering in heavy-industrial environments
• Experience with P&IDs, equipment drawings, process control narratives and risk assessments
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to collaborate across teams

Responsibilities

• Review and manage design drawings for construction and installation
• Review equipment and process design packages, specs, calculations, and vendor documentation for operability
• Develop operating, maintenance, startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures
• Plan and support factory/site acceptance testing, commissioning, performance testing, and ramp-up
• Define operating parameters, equipment acceptance criteria, spare-parts needs, maintenance strategies, and technical standards
• Investigate process and equipment failures, lead root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
• Build technical training materials and qualify engineers, operators, and technicians
• Track safety, quality, throughput, yield, reliability, cost, and schedule performance and lead improvements

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are hiring a Plant Mechanical Engineer to support the safe design, construction, commissioning, startup, and reliable operation of a major heavy-industrial process facility. Working with a high degree of independence and technical leadership, you'll take assigned equipment and systems from design review through commissioning, startup, and reliable day-to-day operation.

This is a rare opportunity to help bring a major new Ascension Parish facility online from the ground up and grow with it through commissioning, startup, and steady-state operations.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Review and manage design drawings for construction and installation
• Review equipment and process design packages, specifications, calculations, and vendor documentation for technical completeness and operability
• Develop operating, maintenance, inspection, startup, shutdown, and emergency procedures for your assigned facility
• Plan and support factory and site acceptance testing, commissioning, performance testing, and production ramp-up
• Define operating parameters, equipment acceptance criteria, spare-parts needs, maintenance strategies, and technical standards
• Investigate process and equipment failures, lead root-cause analysis, and implement lasting corrective actions
• Build technical training materials and qualify engineers, operators, and technicians
• Track safety, quality, throughput, yield, reliability, cost, and schedule performance and lead improvement efforts

WHAT YOU BRING

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Metallurgical or a closely related engineering discipline
• 6+ years of mechanical or rotating-equipment engineering experience in a heavy-industrial or continuous-process environment (such as metals, chemical, petrochemical, refining, minerals or gas processing, cement, or power)
• Working knowledge of P&IDs, equipment drawings, process control narratives, and risk assessments
• Proven ability to manage priorities, analyze information, document work clearly, and collaborate across teams
• Working proficiency with Microsoft 365 and job-relevant technical systems

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

• Experience in steel or metals production, or another large-scale heavy-industrial or process-manufacturing environment
• Commissioning, startup, and production ramp-up experience on greenfield or capital projects, including OEM/vendor coordination

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Salary Range: $95,000 – $130,000
