Description
The Plant Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and servicing plant equipment and mechanical systems to support safe and efficient facility operations. This position performs preventative maintenance, welding, fabrication, inspections, and mechanical repairs on a variety of industrial equipment including conveyors, pumps, hydraulic systems, trailers, forklifts, and blending equipment while ensuring compliance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and diagnose issues with machinery, pumps, piping systems, conveyors, motors, hydraulic systems, and mechanical equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance and repairs to maximize equipment reliability and minimize downtime.
- Conduct maintenance inspections and identify wear, damage, or operational deficiencies.
- Repair and replace mechanical components, bearings, belts, motors, hoses, valves, and related equipment.
- Clean, lubricate, and service machinery and mechanical systems according to maintenance schedules.
- Replenish fluids, oils, greases, and other consumable components as needed.
- Perform welding and fabrication work, including repairs to equipment, tanks, structures, and components.
- Assist with millwright-related tasks including equipment alignment, installation, rigging, and assembly.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems and complete repairs as necessary.
- Maintain maintenance logs, work orders, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
- Assist with facility upkeep including painting, structural repairs, and general maintenance duties.
- Provide recommendations regarding preventative maintenance practices and equipment improvements.
- Operate tools, lifts, loaders, forklifts, and maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with safety standards.
- Follow all company safety procedures, lockout/tagout procedures, PPE requirements, and operational policies.
- Perform additional maintenance or operational duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Skills
- Proven experience as a Plant Mechanic, Industrial Maintenance Technician, or Millwright.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of industrial machinery, hydraulic systems, conveyors, pumps, and engines.
- Welding and fabrication experience required; stainless steel welding experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, diagrams, and maintenance instructions.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and organizational skills.
- Flexibility to work varying schedules, overtime, weekends, and emergency call-outs as needed.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Technical school certification, vocational training, or apprenticeship experience is a plus.
- Must provide and maintain personal hand tools required for the position.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding work in an industrial plant environment.
Employees must be able to:
- Repetitively lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
- Perform climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, shoveling, carrying, and prolonged standing or walking.
- Work overhead and at elevated heights including ladders, platforms, and aerial lifts.
- Work in hot, cold, dusty, humid, noisy, and non-air-conditioned environments.
- Tolerate exposure to outdoor weather conditions and industrial plant environments.
- Wear required PPE including respirators, N95 masks, half-face respirators, and full-face respirators in accordance with OSHA medical evaluation and fit-testing requirements.
- Read, write, and understand English for safety, operational, and training purposes.
- Maintain agility, flexibility, and stamina necessary to safely perform maintenance duties.
Due to the operational nature of the business, maintenance personnel may be required to work extended hours, weekends, holidays, or respond to operational emergencies as needed.
