Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or power-industry training or equivalent.
  • At least five years in renewable or power-generation development, design, permitting, construction, operations, or maintenance; solar preferred.
  • Two+ years leading a direct team with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Working knowledge of electrical facility operations and maintenance incl. LV/MV systems and schematics.
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and CMMS platforms.

About This Role

Geronimo Power is seeking a Solar Plant Manager to provide onsite leadership for the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the 250 MW Portage Solar facility near Plover, Wisconsin. This role leads a high-performing team of Field Technicians, manages site operations and maintenance, supports budget and outage planning, and ensures work is performed in accordance with prudent utility practices, regulatory requirements, and company standards. The Plant Manager reports to the Regional Director, Field Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Lead day-to-day site operations to maximize plant availability and reliability while maintaining a safe, economical, and proactive work environment.
  • Direct and supervise operations personnel and support hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, and corrective action activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company and project environmental, health, and safety (EHS) programs, including job safety analyses, observations, audits, meetings, training, and incident assessments.
  • Coordinate with EHS, Engineering, Asset Management, and other internal and external stakeholders to meet operational, customer, and contractual requirements.
  • Manage preventive and corrective maintenance activities, work schedules, outage coordination, troubleshooting, repairs, retrofits, and warranty activities.
  • Maintain accurate site records in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and ensure required documentation is complete and timely.
  • Support NERC compliance and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and manage the annual site operating budget, monitor expenses, and support fiscal accountability.
  • Oversee plant performance, analyze operational issues, participate in root cause analyses, and present findings and recommendations to cross-functional teams and leadership.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly reports covering plant performance, project status, expenses, contractual requirements, and other key operating metrics.
  • Support construction-phase quality assurance and quality control activities and ensure an effective transition from construction to operations.
  • Develop and maintain site procedures with input from appropriate subject matter experts.
  • Establish and maintain site tooling, spare parts, equipment, and inventory controls, including cycle counts and supplier reorders.
  • Administer warranties, submit and track claims, and reconcile loaned parts with appropriate parties.
  • Manage capital improvement programs, operational initiatives, and site environmental permits, including the vegetation management strategy.
  • Travel occasionally to other plants or locations to support maintenance, troubleshooting, campaigns, training, or meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree, technical school certificate, five years of related experience or power-industry training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least five years of experience across renewable or other power-generation development, design, permitting, construction, operations, or maintenance; solar experience is preferred.
  • At least two years of experience leading a direct team or group of employees and demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Working knowledge of electrical facility operations and maintenance, including low- and medium-voltage systems, electrical schematics, and technical prints.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills in a fast-paced operating environment.
  • Advanced proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control, management, reporting, diagnostic, and troubleshooting systems.
  • Experience with CMMS platforms; experience establishing or improving preventive maintenance programs is preferred.
  • Experience with high-voltage maintenance, switching, and test equipment is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and to work overtime, holidays, weekends, and on short notice when operational needs require.
  • Ability to live within 60 miles or a 60-minute drive of the primary plant location.
Success in This Role Looks Like
  • The site consistently meets safety, availability, reliability, and budget expectations.
  • Preventive and corrective maintenance work is completed on schedule and documented accurately in the CMMS.
  • The Field Technician team is appropriately staffed, trained, engaged, and held accountable to clear performance and safety expectations.
  • Site procedures, permits, outage plans, inventory, warranties, and compliance records are current and audit ready.
  • Construction-to-operations turnover is completed with clear ownership, accurate documentation, and minimal operational disruption.
  • Operational issues are identified early, resolved effectively, and communicated through timely reporting and cross-functional partnership.

Pay Range for the posted level: $105,000 - $130,000 plus target annual bonus opportunity of 25%. Actual compensation may vary based on experience, skills, and demonstrated market-relevant expertise.
