The Plant Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of order fulfillment and facility operations. This includes overseeing production, shipping and receiving, warehouse functions, and product quality, as well as ensuring effective building maintenance. The role emphasizes safety, cost control, on-time delivery, product quality, and operational excellence. The Plant Manager will lead a team from order intake through to timely, accurate shipment.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Oversee daily plant operations and supervise all plant personnel to ensure smooth, efficient production.
- Ensure consistent product output by adhering to documented processes and maintaining optimal operating conditions.
- Provide training to team members on proper equipment usage, safety standards, and housekeeping practices.
- Maximize workforce efficiency and optimize the use of plant equipment to meet production demands.
- Align production activities with customer demand and company forecasts to ensure timely delivery and product availability.
- Work closely with HR to manage staffing levels and serve as the primary contact for temporary staffing agencies.
- Lead performance appraisals, employee recognition initiatives, conflict resolution, and professional development efforts.
- Ensure plant operations meet OSHA, EPA, and other industry regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scheduling, supply chain, customer service, and finance, to ensure smooth production workflows.
- Maintain inventory levels of raw materials, packaging, and finished goods to prevent shortages and disruptions.
- Accurately enter and manage production data in the ERP system to ensure correct tracking and reporting.
- Drive accuracy and timeliness in order processing and fulfillment to meet customer expectations.
- Monitor and improve key operational metrics, including first-pass quality, quality complaint resolution, production and conversion cost efficiency, pounds per hour, yield, and budget performance, as well as safety incident rates.
- Uphold and promote the company’s vision, values, and operational standards.
- Foster a safe, clean, and organized work environment in line with company policies.
- Ensure the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and full adherence to safety guidelines.
- Participate in relevant training and development activities to stay current on best practices for plant operations.
- Lead and support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and reducing waste.
- Perform other duties as required to support the plant’s success.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Science, Business, or a related field preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 5+ years of experience in manufacturing plant operations, with proven leadership experience.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., ABAS, MRP, MRPII).
- Excellent command of Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- In-depth knowledge of LEAN manufacturing principles and practices.
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage plant-level operations, and ensure high performance.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and leadership abilities.
- Capability to manage projects and influence cross-functional teams to achieve operational goals.
