Job description

ScottsMiracle‑GRO is seeking a Plant Operations Manager to lead the entire range of plant operations, including production, field work, warehouse, shipping & receiving, maintenance, and office management, and to drive strategic operational performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish short‑ and long‑term strategic operating objectives for the plant.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day plant operations, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations and enforcing quality control standards.
  • Forecast and schedule production and develop and approve all plant operating policies.
  • Direct, manage and develop supervisory personnel to ensure efficient and safe plant operation.
  • Establish, communicate, and enforce safety programs and procedures.
  • Develop and monitor the plant operating budget; prepare and analyze profit & loss statements and implement improvements to enhance profitability.
  • Recommend purchase of capital equipment and plant expansion, and identify and negotiate with suppliers and vendors to ensure quality and cost effectiveness.
  • Establish and monitor plant compensation levels, reviewing recommendations for salary adjustments of supervisory, office and hourly personnel.
  • Foster a high level of customer service through on‑time deliveries, responsiveness to customer needs, and meeting all customer quality requirements.
  • Communicate with other plant managers, the Director of Regional Operations, salespeople, and corporate office personnel to ensure efficient plant operation.
  • Develop and maintain positive community relations by participating in community activities and organizations to promote goodwill and a positive company image.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field (strongly preferred); equivalent experience in plant or operations management considered.
  • Minimum five (5) years of manufacturing experience in a leadership role that includes responsibility for P&L, safety, quality, associate development, production, and financial & inventory management.
  • Track record of building high‑performing teams in a fast‑moving, growth‑oriented environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills with a proven record of building strong relationships across all levels.
  • Keen business acumen and attention to detail, with a solid record of leading change and delivering superior safety and business results.
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement, team building, safety, associate relations, quality, customer service, purchasing, distribution, marketing, and financials.
Compensation and Benefits

Starting budgeted pay range: $133,800.00 – $157,400.00 per year. The actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and location. The role is incentive‑eligible under the corporate bonus program. For remote candidates residing in Alaska, California, Colorado, Illinois, NewYork, Oregon, or Washington, state‑required pay thresholds will be applied.
