Job summary

JELD-WEN is seeking a senior plant operations leader to manage all plant activities and drive continuous improvement. You will oversee safety, quality, budgets, and cross-functional coordination with R&D and Engineering to meet production goals.

Successful candidates have 7–10 years of manufacturing leadership, a strong financial acumen, and proven Lean/SQDCI implementation experience in a millwork environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or engineering (or equivalent) required.
  • 7–10 years in manufacturing leadership, preferably in sawmill/millwork.
  • Strong knowledge of finance, quality control systems, and Lean methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all plant operations and production at the facility.
  • Drive KPIs including SQDCI, TPS, OTD and CI activities.
  • Coordinate with Managers to achieve objectives using LEAN processes.
  • Establish and monitor safety, production and quality standards.
  • Develop and control the plant budget to maximize profits.
  • Hire, train, develop and appraise staff; coach managers.
  • Oversee safety and preventative maintenance programs.

Job description

  • Manage all plant operations and overall production at the manufacturing facility
  • Drive JELD-WEN KPIs, including SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and Continuous Improvement activities
  • Coordinate plant activities with Production and Departmental Managers to achieve manufacturing objectives using LEAN processes
  • Establish and monitor plant safety, production, and quality performance standards
  • Collaborate with R&D and Engineering to develop scopes of work and specifications
  • Develop, control, and implement the plant budget to maximize profits
  • Control operating expenditures, manpower, wages, and capital assets/projects
  • Work with R&D and support departments to test and implement new materials
  • Coordinate plant and production activities through strategic planning with the Director of Operations and VPO
  • Oversee safety and preventative maintenance programs and drive safety procedures
  • Coordinate shop-floor organization with Process Engineering personnel
  • Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff
  • Coach and mentor managerial personnel and instill cultural values across plant personnel
  • Drive continuous-improvement methods
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Engineering, or related field, or Associate’s degree in a related field with 10 years’ experience in a managerial capacity at JELD-WEN may be substituted for advanced degrees, or equivalent combination of education/experience at management’s discretion
  • 7–10 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the sawmill and millwork industry
  • Strong knowledge of business, finance, and quality control systems
  • Advanced leadership, interpersonal, technical aptitude, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lead and drive manufacturing process improvement techniques through the production process
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in SQDCI, TPS, OTD, and Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • LEAN manufacturing and production process experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other applicable software applications
  • Strong knowledge of plant/OSHA health and safety standards and compliance
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions
  • Fundamental knowledge of engineering principles
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and purchasing
  • Ability to read and interpret product drawings and schematics
  • Travel up to 15% +/-
