Athens Services is seeking a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in California to service and repair trucks and yellow iron, including bulldozers, loaders, scrapers, and other equipment. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose electrical and hydraulic systems, and document work orders and PM checklists.
The role requires 3 years of diesel equipment experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to safely follow OSHA rules.
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic (Yellow Iron) reports to the Maintenance Supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic is personally responsible for performing complex preventative maintenance tasks, and troubleshoots and repairs a wide variety of operational equipment (Trucks and Yellow Iron).
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned. Repairs as needed equipment (including, but not limited to, bulldozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, yards trucks, tractors, forklifts, and company cars). Perform assigned repairs and preventive maintenance tasks in accordance with established Standard Repair Times (SRTs), ensuring work is completed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with company safety and quality standards. Diagnoses and repairs differentials, hydraulic systems, motors, transmissions, drives, air conditioning systems, and electrical systems. Performs tasks per preventative maintenance checklist. Completes records such as work orders, card files, P.M. checklists, and oil samples. Services and maintains other equipment such as light plants, water pump, welders, and other equipment. Reference site-specific procedures and more detailed site-specific job descriptions. Performing other duties as assigned.
Physical: Standing, walking, seeing, hearing, & smelling continuously. Problem solving, oral communication, analytical ability, concentration, exposure to heavy machinery, & eye/hand coordination, & handling continuously. Bending, reaching, stretching, crouching, & lifting ≤ 50 Lbs. continuously. Exposure to unprotected heights occasionally.
Environmental: Exposure to dust, smoke, fumes, odors, grease, oil, chemicals, wet slippery surfaces, hot/cold conditions, & noise continuously. Works inside and outside.
