Job summary

Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY is seeking a Plant Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the repair, maintenance and daily operation of the hospital plant and auxiliary systems serving roughly 2,000,000 square feet of patient care, clinical and support areas.

You will supervise Steam and Plumbing shops, coordinate preventive maintenance, ensure code compliance, safety programs and documentation, and support capital projects under the Chief Engineer.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in plant operations, mechanical systems, or facilities maintenance.
• Minimum 2 years of supervisory or lead experience in a facilities, institutional, or healthcare environment.
• Strong knowledge of steam systems, plumbing systems, pumps, valves, and related infrastructure.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

• Supervises day to day operations of the Steam and Plumbing shops, including assignment of work, staff scheduling, and performance monitoring.
• Directs preventive and corrective maintenance activities for plant utilities, steam distribution systems, hot and cold water systems, pumps, valves, and related mechanical equipment.
• Ensures all work complies with applicable codes, regulatory requirements, and hospital standards (e.g., Joint Commission, NFPA, DOB, DOH).
• Conducts routine inspections of mechanical spaces, utility systems, and equipment to identify issues and verify optimal performance.
• Coordinates maintenance activities to support uninterrupted patient care operations.
• Assists the Chief Engineer in planning, coordinating, and monitoring capital and operational projects.
• Oversees contractor work, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines, work scope, and project timelines.
• Maintains documentation, logs, and reports required for inspections and regulatory compliance.
• Supports safety programs including lockout/tagout, confined space procedures, water management protocols, and environment of care requirements.
• Provides guidance, training, and development for shop personnel and promotes a culture of professionalism and service excellence.
• Maintains inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment; assists with budget planning and cost management initiatives.
